2012 Subaru Forester -
I love driving my Subaru Forester. I was used to driving cars, not trucks, and even though this was a relatively larger vehicle for me, I had no problem adjusting. It has been reliable over the years with no issues other than routine maintenance. We have driven this vehicle all over the country in all types of terrain and it performs well. We originally purchased it while living in an arctic climate, so performance on icy roads was critical. The all-wheel drive was really spectacular, and I always felt safe on the snow and ice.
Story
We took this vehicle on an epic road trip from Alaska to Colorado, crossing the continental divide numerous times.
Pros
I love how stable it is on ice and snow. Our model has heated seats which is a huge benefit. I love the giant moon roof; it is so nice to open up on warm days. Before our kids arrived, we would fold down the back seats often for our dog, and it was nice to give him that space. It has also been relatively fuel efficient for a non-electric car.
Cons
The major downside is that now that we have two kids, we are really feeling squished. I love the Subaru, but I wish they would make a larger version so that we could take even just one more kid (like my kid's friend) in the back. Also, even if we just have ourselves and the kids, going on a road trip or camping is difficult packing everything in. Also, we have a four cyl., and I would prefer a six cyl. or greater.
2003 Subaru Forester - Just keeps on running.
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester with over 220,000 miles. She still drives like a champ and only burns a little oil. The paint and interior have also held up well over the years.
Story
I have to be at work at 6am in the Winter in a rural area of the Colorado Rockies. This is typically a time when plows have not been out since the night before. Even driving up mountain switchbacks, I have never gotten stuck nor have been worried about getting stuck. AWD! 5 speed manual. Seat heaters. Windshield wiper defrost. Fog lights.
Cons
No AUX jack or any way to hook up cell phone.
