I bought this vehicle in 2006 when I began to have problems with my knees. My previous vehicle was a Mazda Protege. The Mazda was an excellent car but it sat very close to the ground. Getting in and out of this vehicle was very difficult because of the problem with my knees. The Scion sat at the right height for me. I have had this vehicle for eleven years and have no plans to sell it in the near future.
Story
One as I was entering a grocery store a twelve year old boy fell in love with the vehicle. I was amused because the Scion XB looks like a rolling toaster. It certainly doesn't look like a hot sports car. His Mom looked as amused as I was and told him when he was old enough he could buy one for himself.
Pros
This car has great gas mileage. When I first bought it, I was making a 30 mile round trip to work five days a week so the mileage was an important consideration. The only money that I have put into the car, expect for its original cost, is routine maintenance and two new sets of tires. It has been very economical. I have three grandchildren. There is lots of room for them in this car. The back seat has plenty of room for two adults.
Cons
It's a great around town vehicle, but it is not good for long trips. The ride is a little bumpy and for some people, like my husband, the driver's seat is at an angle that causes leg cramps after a half hour. The position of the speedometer is a little strange. Sometimes you have to look around it. The post between the windshield and the passenger window blocks the view of oncoming traffic. You need to wait a couple of extra seconds before you pull into oncoming traffic.
