This has been an excellent car for me, firstly I really like its simplicity, no gps, power seats, etc. Less to break in my experience, it has been very reliable. The simplicity also makes it very fun to drive because it is small and uses plastic body panels it is very nimble, while not really fast, it remains a blast to drive. I like its sporty looks as well, while sporty its not over the top and doesn't draw attention from law enforcement. While materials are definitely low end they don't seem to break or fall apart often and when they do are quite easy to repair. Lastly the fuel economy is excellent, I get 32-36 mpg on regular basis, which puts a lot of extra money back in my pocket. By the way I once fit two 8 foot 2x4's in the car by folding down the back seat and letting one end s... (more)

Every morning in this car is great fun, my drive to work takes me through the country on some great twisty roads, and this car is great fun to push hard through the corners as it is light and very nimble. Not totally legal but very fun!

Cons
- There are no longer factory Saturn parts available - fit and finish are sub-par especially the dash and body panels - 1.9L engine design has a tendency to use oil internally - because of above you must check oil quite often - cars are becoming increasin

First of all, I feel safe in my Saturn. I originally bought a Saturn after a friend recommended that all of her friends buy Saturns after she survived a head-on collision on one. She'd recently learned that had she been driving a car with a body made from different materials, there would have been no way she would have lived. I bought my 2001 SL-1 used and it runs better than brand new cars I've owned. Second, it looks like a high-end vehicle but isn't priced like one. I feel classy driving around in my Saturn despite it being a vehicle that I think has been discontinued (not many people work on them anymore, at least). I think the interior design is comfortable and there's a lot of space for transporting lots of people and items. I've driven across the country with this thing and a wh... (more)
Story
I drove this car through the Badlands of South Dakota in relentless heat and it never hesitated!
Pros
This car is great on gas. Even when gas prices are high, my wallet barely suffers. I think the car is aesthetically pleasing and I love having four convenient doors. I've put 50,000 miles on this car in a few years and the body doesn't show it. The engine feels awesome and has a lot of power for what it is.
Cons
The interior ceiling is covered in cloth that drops down. I recommend stapling it back into place rather than cutting it like I did. Also there's a timing chain that needs to be replaced.

I was only fifteen years old when this car was presented to me. I thought it looked sporty and well cared for by the previous owner. The only thing I didn't like when I first saw it was some body damage due to careless driving. It had brand new tires and brakes. It handled like a dream. I was so excited about my first car. It still rides the same as the day I bought it and it's going on 17 years old.
Story
I used to drift around the corners in my neighborhood during the winter. My car was light enough where it would slide nicely on the snow/ice. It made me become a very good driver.
Pros
The gas mileage is always a plus when it comes to owning a small Saturn. I don't have to fill it as often as every one else has to fill their cars and mine is usually less expensive. I like the sunroof in my car.
Cons
I don't fit well in this car. I am six foot and it's a very small framed car. My legs cramp if I'm driving for a long period of time.
