I was a fan of Saturn vehicles before buying this used L series wagon. One of the things I liked immediately was the comfort level and ease of handling. Over the 12 years it worked, it just kept showing what a great car it was. It's got the room to (carefully) transport an unassembled futon (done that) and is comfortable enough to make eight-hour one-way road trips with only needing to stop for gas and to stretch once. Even when age and a few mistakes on my part started killing the car, it just kept going. It ran on only three of the four cylinders for over two years and only died completely recently when I lost another cylinder. I think some of the things I disliked were just the general unfamiliarity with Saturns among mechanics. It was never a huge brand, so even things like oil cha... (more)
Story
So weird humor, but one time a friend and I were walking around an open air living museum. When we got back to the parking lot, there were Sheriffs parked right behind me as several other cars had been broken into. (Mine wasn't.) We just popped the hatch and used it to sit in the back in the shade until the Sheriffs moved.
Pros
Great interior room, good handling, comfortable, decent sound system, decent gas mileage.
Cons
Mechanics aren't as familiar with Saturns in my experience, and some used parts are harder to find.

This is a great affordable car for someone who isn't looking for unnecessary bells and whistles that most cars have now. It just runs and can run for a very long time! It sips gas but isn't as sluggish on acceleration given it only has a 100 HP engine. Maintenance is easy and very cheap. Replacing parts isn't expensive and parts are still plentiful even though the line has been discontinued many years ago.
Story
It can pick up and go as a manual transmission helps you control when it shifts.
Pros
Excellent gas mileage. This thing sips gas and you can easily get almost 40 miles to the gallon on the highway. Very easy to maintain and fix if you need to at a very cheap rate! Simple layout doesn't have a cluttered dashboard that is easy to read. My vehicle had a cool feature that told you when you should shift by having an arrow light up. That was the manual configuration.
Cons
It does lack power windows and locks. The radio is pretty plain so you need to upgrade it yourself. Acceleration can be sluggish going uphill, especially if you are driving an automatic instead of the manual option. Rear seats are a little cramped for passengers. As it ages it will burn oil but not a terrible rate. You just need to top it off and keep an eye on it. Saturns are notorious for doing this.
