Pontiac Aztek Owner Ratings & Reviews

2004 Pontiac Aztek - Best vehicle ever
I honestly did not find anything I disliked about the vehicle. I loved the look of it, the size, the performance, the accessories. I love the idea of a split hatch, and having seats and cupholders on the lower gate.
Story
Bringing a portable grill and having a mini cookout using the lower gate to sit on.
Pros
Roomy and powerful, but with good fuel economy. Also able to take a beating without any real issues. I love the split hatch and the seats and cup holders molded into the lower gate. The shape of the vehicle, and the doorless gas cap were what attracted me to it initially.
Cons
The only thing I can think of is that the wheel bearings have a habit of going bad much quicker than they should.
2001 Pontiac Aztek - The Aztec, the car that sank Pontiac
The styling of the Aztec was truly unique. It was a true love it or hate it car. It didn't know what it wanted to be, part SUV part luxury car. The appointments in the car where truly awesome, stylish and comfortable. I believe the car only ran for 4 or 5 years before it sank into oblivion and brought the whole company down with it because of its failure to catch on to the car buying public.
The car was introduced to the buying public in 2001 ( the year I owned) to Luke warm reviews. As I stated before it was a love it or hate it type of car. I had the misfortune of loving the unique body styling when I first saw it. Then I hoped in for a test drive and the ride was super, smooth as sitting in my living room. It handled well and had a superior sound system.
Unfortunately all the go... (more)
Story
when it was driving well it was always a joy.
Pros
As I said before the car had a superior ride and handling, I have a Lincoln now and I think the Aztec was a better ride. Wide comfortable seats plenty of leg and head room and the best stock stereo I have ever heard.
Cons
The undersized engine was a huge draw back. In the 5 years I have had the car I had to put 2 new engines in it. I bought it used and it had already had 2 engines put in it. It was only 10 years old and had 180,000 miles on it. But 5 engines and 2 transmissions? Plus the electrical system shorts out a lot. The body control system they installed in the car is just very faulty. It had great potential but fell short.
2005 Pontiac Aztek - Ugliest, most awesome car ever
When I first saw this car, I was turned off. I didn't like the way it looked. A ten year old boy encouraged me to test drive it because it looked 'futuristic.' Doubtful, I got behind the wheel...
That was eight years ago, and I have never regretted the purchase of my secondhand Aztek. It drives wonderfully - it feels substantial, but it's not a big, heavy vehicle. It rather has minivan comfort and utility in an SUV package. I particularly like the way the seating is raised, so you aren't straining to see over the hood, and the visibility is good all the way around. The way the back seats fold flat to accommodate cargo is a simple and smooth operation and offers TONS of space in the back.
Its gas mileage has been pretty impressive, and it has required few repairs. The way the exterior... (more)
Story
I enjoyed using this car on a camping trip in the Chattanooga valley. I backed the Aztek right up to the edge of the fire and sat with my partner on the tailgate. I was able to plug my cell phone and stereo right into the cargo bay ports so we could have some music, and then just chilled out in the cargo bay and went to sleep. In the morning, we tossed all our stuff in the back, closed the hat... (more)
