Plymouth Owner Ratings & Reviews

1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager - Holds a lot of stuff; great for business use
I needed a vehicle to use in my business, so I bought a certified pre owned 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager at the suggestion of a family member. I got one with a V-6 engine for the better gas mileage.
Story
Since the vehicle was for business use, I don't have any "fun" stories except that I just remember many hours and miles of pleasant driving. The thing was a very reliable work horse.
Pros
It really holds a lot of stuff, especially with the rear seats removed. This was ideal for my business use since I was using medium and small sized containers for various things.
Mine had "captain's chair" type seats in the front, which were very comfortable on long trips. The seating position was excellent and I feel contributes to safety. My longest trips were about 8 hours of driving time and I was not unduly tired when I would reach my destination. No stiff back or neck.
With the V-6 engine, the gas mileage was decent. On the highway, I got from 24 to 26 mpg. Around town I got about ... (more)
Cons
I only had three "cons." The paint did not hold up very well and I had the vehicle repainted twice in the 12 years and 200,000 miles that I drove it. The transmission had an inferior repair record and sure enough, I had the transmission replaced once with a rebuilt unit. I also had to replace the shocks and struts with heavy duty units. The stock shocks and struts did not last long, probably due to my heavy duty use.
1992 Plymouth Acclaim - The Best First Car I Could Ask For
This was the first car that my mom bought for me when I was 17. I loved this car, and had it almost to the end of college. It was small, but it was fast! Everyone called it a "grandma" car, but it beat everyone's car in speed. It had a really smooth ride, and it was very comfortable. There weren't many things that I disliked. The interior of the car was very nice. The seats held their shape, and there were never any rips in the fabric. All the materials inside the car were very sturdy and never got any damage. And I was not so careful in high school, so that says a lot. There was no rust on the exterior, so I think that the paint job was really good quality as well.
Story
I babysat my nephew while my sister was having another baby. When it was time to go meet his new sister, I packed him up in my little Acclaim, and on the way to the hospital we talked about how excited he was to meet her. For the longest time, he associated my car with his little sister being born.
My friends and I all named our cars in high school. I named my car "Laverne." I felt like she w... (more)
Pros
The engine was powerful. I think it was a V6. There was plenty of leg room and head room in the car. I am pretty tall, and my family is pretty tall, and they never had any trouble fitting in the car.
Cons
Other than the oil leak, I can't think of too many cons about my Acclaim. Maybe it wasn't the sportiest looking car ever, but I feel like the performance of the car really made up for it. If we're nitpicking, I didn't like that it didn't have power windows or power locks. But that's really all.
1986 Plymouth Horizon - Plain, sturdy little trooper of a car
This was a very plain, inexpensive car, I bought last's years version "new." It was a square little thing rather like the VW/Audi Fox I had owned. I loved it, great mileage, a lot of room in the (hatch) back for my Siberian Husky, who was my only passenger.
Little in the way of fancy electronics, so not a lot of circuitry to break. I drove this car for almost 2 decades, mostly as a primary, but for a while as a backup vehicle. Even in fairly substantial snowfall, and I'm talking close to a foot, it used to get me up a small mountain. I'm not saying it felt real secure doing it, but the car did deliver more than I would have ever expected from the size and price.
I've always regretted that they stopped making this model, if it were available today, I'd buy it again. All subseque... (more)
Story
I picked up my first Husky puppy in this car (7 weeks old). I usually do rescue, but I decided to try a young one. I took a copier paper box, cut a hole about 3 inches by 7 inches in the top, and the puppy inside. He was most unhappy, stuck his head through the hole and proceeded to screech and yowl until finally I took the top off.
For several weeks he drove around in this box at the fron... (more)
Pros
Simple, sturdy, minimal maintenance costs. Very good gas mileage, about 34 mpg. Lot of space in the back for my 85 pound Siberian Husky, a big male. Always delivered for me, didn't break down unexpectedly, no weird fluky problems. Just rode, and rode, needing only the standard maintenance and the kinds of replacements you'd expect (tires, brakes, windshield wipers, etc).
Cons
None really. It was small, with bread-and-butter-plate size tires, so it wasn't real stable-feeling in snowy and icy weather. But it got through a lot of it anyway, and ferried me 45 minutes to work every day even in the worst of conditions.
