Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Owner Ratings & Reviews

1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - Big enough.
It just keeps on driving, no matter what. Most of the mechanical problems have always been related to smog system issues, not passing the smog inspection and then repairing what's necessary to pass on the next test. Whenever a breakdown has occurred, mechanics have been able to locate the problem and easily fix it or replace the involved part. Sometimes I'm able to do the repair myself because it has plenty of room under the hood to access things. As long as I'm able to extract the broken part myself and bring it into an auto parts store, I can bring it home and install the new one myself. My car is also large enough to transport up to five passengers because it has six seatbelts. The size of the interior and the trunk combined make it able to really load it up with stuff to move... (more)
Story
Bringing a car full of ladies to a women's only event.
Pros
Driving over railroad tracks has minimal impact on the alignment and life of the tires. The heater works well and so does the air conditioner. The large windows allow me to very clearly see the traffic around me. It is a very comfortable ride. I love that I can transport a lot of people or stuff in it. It is also very reliable considering its age.
Cons
It looks like hell. Because of the way it looks I'm pulled over often by the police. Certain areas of town I avoid, knowing I will be pulled over multiple times within 30 minutes if I drive there. Occasionally, people that look like they might be gang members approach me about my car which is a little scary.
1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - An oldie but goodie
My car is 23 years old, so at this point it has some minor issues, although most are cosmetic. The seats look worn, the cloth on the ceiling of the interior is sagging, there are some scratches on the paint of the exterior. I care much more about how the car actually runs, though, and I have to say it runs great. I bought it from a friend in Nebraska and drove it back home to Ohio, more than 800 miles away, and it ran smoothly. I am now actually living in Nebraska, and the car has made it through some very cold winter weather and it starts right up every time. I have to say it runs better than some newer vehicles I have owned. I have the idea they made cars better back when this one was made. It seems to get decent gas mileage, too, although I'm sure newer models do better in that regard.
Story
I currently live in Nebraska but have friends and family back in Ohio. This car has made the 800-mile trip back and forth four times in the past two years, including once in a terrible snowstorm, with no trouble.
Pros
I love the fact that it always starts. It gets me where I need to go which is, after all, the most important thing about a car. It's also roomy, there is plenty of leg room, and the trunk can hold a lot. I enjoy camping and can fit my tent, a cooler, clothing, food, everything I need for a week in the great outdoors in my trunk.
Cons
This may sound like a really small thing, but it has no built-in cup holders. I always like the have something to drink in the car and I need a place to put my drink.
1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - Reliable, American Beauty
The 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was the last Cutlass Supreme ever made, and that is a crying shame. This car is a beautiful reminder of the old days of American cars. It has a classic look and is as reliable as it gets. The GM 3100 engine is one of the best engines ever made (ask any mechanic, they'll agree). The solid, durable construction is something that has gone out to pasture these days having been replaced by cheaper materials. At nearly 20 years old and 100,000+ miles, my Cutlass Supreme still runs like a top.
Story
When I got my Cutlass Supreme back from the shop from repairing the intake gasket, I was so happy to have her back. That kind of damage would kill most cars, but not this one. I took my baby straight from the shop to a dirt road in the country and let her rip. It was awesome to hear her purr again.
Pros
I love so many things about my Cutlass Supreme. The bold American look is timeless. The construction is solid, making the car reliable as can be. I was able to drive 10 miles with a blown intake gasket, spilling coolant into my oil while the car overheated and managed to still have the engine survive. Not only that, but it is still running 2 years later as quiet and with as much pickup as ever.
Cons
The biggest problem I had with this vehicle was the intake gasket that blew. It is a common problem with these cars and cost me a fair amount of money to fix (but it was well worth it!). I guess if you are a fan of newer cars, the look may be a bit antiquated after 20 years and it is not as compact and navigable as many cars today.
