We got this vehicle when we moved north near lake effect snow. This winter, we were able to travel through unplowed snow and ice using the four wheel high and low drives. The driver's seat has plenty of leg room, although it does sit high off the ground and takes a bit of a stretch to get into it. We may add step bars later. The interior is comfortable and the ride is smooth. The traction, as I said earlier works better than anything I've driven to date, and it has good pickup when you accelerate.
Story
During a winter storm, we decided to test drive the vehicle and were able to drive through the city streets before they were plowed. It's good to know that we have that capability in case of an emergency, we know how this vehicle will perform in extreme winter conditions.
Pros
My favorite features were the acceleration, the great traction in snow, the comfortable leg room inside the vehicle, the way the back seats fold down to make room for cargo in the back.
Cons
We are going to put in a step bar, so we can hit the snow off our boots before we get into it. It is not a small vehicle, and does not fit into tight spaces without a bit of maneuvering.

The Nissan Xterra is a versatile SUV that is perfect for camping, hauling your boat, commutes in the dead of winter, and trips to the beach. The vehicle has four-wheel drive, an interior made for comfort and easy clean-up, a roof rack, plenty of trunk space, and handles in any condition.
Story
I owned a sports car before the Xterra and was stuck constantly in the winter. During the first winter with this vehicle, I would drive down the road, unphased, and was able to help others dig themselves out of snowy jams. It was a good feeling.
Pros
The Nissan Xterra has multiple four- and two-wheel drive modes, a roof rack, easy to clean interior, a rugged build, and the amenities of a more luxurious vehicle.
Cons
The gas mileage of this vehicle is horrendous. You can actually see the gas gauge falling when you tow a trailer or when you're in four-wheel drive. Also, the back seat is very rigid and uncomfortable.
