Rare to find, the 2001 standard shift manual transmission Nissan Xterra surpassed all expectations. The modest interior is roomy and functional. The 2.4L engine gives decent gas mileage, hitting about 21 mpg on the highway and 18 in the city. It has enough power to get you out of the way quickly, and to traverse small obstacles with ease. The ground clearance is a bonus. Will carry up to five passengers with stadium seating. The seats let down to make the most of the cargo hold. This vehicle has lasted 15 years through 4 kids and has only had to have regular maintenance and minor repairs such as belts and hoses and a thermostat. It's my everyday vehicle and I will drive it until it falls apart. When it does, I would buy another Xterra in a heartbeat.
Story
This vehicle makes short work of curbs when you're stuck in position you don't want to be and need to get out.
Pros
This SUV has rails overhead to strap down luggage and gear. The seats fold down to make the most of the cargo area. The manual transmission and high ground clearance make off road driving negotiable.
Cons
When it all comes down, I would have preferred to have the 6 cyl. 3.3L engine in a manual transmission, but couldn't find the V6 in anything but automatic transmission. I would have liked to have a higher gas mileage on the vehicle, but it was manageable for what I put it through. This thing eats belts like crazy... unless you enjoy a high pitched squeal while driving.

2003 Nissan Xterra - Great SUV.

My Xterra is yellow, It is used to commute to and from everyday. I really enjoy the hauling space in the back. The towing capability is also nice when camping. The car is a very nice car when driving around. It currently has around 170K miles on it.
Story
I went camping with my car. I ended up using the back of the Xterra to sleep with my sleeping bag. It was a very relaxing experience.
Pros
The pros are the Space which comes in handy when camping. The ample amount of seats for passengers. Plenty of DC outlets in the car. Able to tow things. Plenty of room to haul items.
Cons
Some the of thing I do not like about the car is the hubcaps will not stay on. The basket on top seems very useless to me. No safety features other then the basic seat belts and airbags. Some the DC outlets do not work. The cup holders do not hold drinks very well.

They were quick to get me financed. They offered a stain resistant package because the interior was too light.
