The Xterra is a great vehicle but its not for everyone. Its not a soccer mom's SUV but rather a truck based SUV. It is built on a truck frame vs. a car's frame like most midsize SUVs. This thing is great if you want to go off road or drive up a snow bank. It is not great on mileage nor does it come with all the frills of most modern SUVs. This is a vehicle that you buy because you need/want performance of the SUV and don't mind giving up mileage and/or interior frills.
Story
This thing is just as happy off road as on road. I've driven up and through snow banks like nothing. In the winter we were able to drive some sketchy trails covered in snow that even in the summer would have been impossible for the run of the mill midsize SUV.
Pros
This thing is solid. Its rugged and can handle quite a bit off and on road. The cargo area in the back is not carpeted which is a plus if you like to throw gear in the back that's dirty. Just a quick sweep and the dirt is gone. If things are wet you can just wipe it down and not worry about carpet growing mold. Can be selected into 4x4 hi or lo which is a dream for the winter's snow. The 4x4 Hi can be engaged even while moving at speeds up to 50 mph so no need to slow down and stop just to adapt to the driving conditions.
Cons
This vehicle is no frills. There is no GPS option. There is no aux cable jack that you will even find on other cars half the price. The mileage is horrendous in the city compared to other vehicles it size.

Our Nissan Xterra is a crimson red model with a 4-wheel drive. We had bought it for about $2000 at the time and felt we got a great deal on it. The thing has a ton of room in the back. It makes it feel like you're driving a truck. You can even put the seats down if you need to make more room for other stuff. We got the automatic and you can barely tell when it's shifting gears. We have yet to have any problems with it in our few years of ownership. It handles very smoothly and is easy to park as well. Normally cars give me a hard time because I'm tall. My legs would hit the dashboard and various issues like that. I have not experienced that with this vehicle.
Story
We did get into a crash once with this vehicle. The xterra is surprisingly tough, only the front was dented a bit. I can't say the same for the car that hit us while pulling out.

1) Tons of space in the back 2) Foldable Seats 3) Model with 4-wheel drive 4) Good mileage 5) Great price 6) Nice form, doesn't feel too big 7) Plenty of leg room for tall people 8) Perfect for a family of four
