2007 Nissan Xterra Owner Ratings & Reviews

2007 Nissan Xterra - An absolute tank.
This is the ultimate example of an everything you need, nothing you don't vehicle. It's something of a dinosaur as a body-on-frame SUV, but the ride and handling are not too truck-like to be uncomfortable for daily driving/commuting. My girlfriend, a very slight woman who is used to driving a Fiat 500 convertible, can drive it easily. Some of the technology is outdated, but that is more than compensated for in terms of the solid yet responsive feel you get when driving it, the simplicity of the design, and reliability. It doesn't have a lot of spit and polish, but you won't feel bad about running it hard. It's served me well for 120,000 miles, including numerous trips up and down the eastern seaboard. It's just a cool-looking vehicle, probably the most functional-looking SUV on the roa... (more)
Story
Driving with my family back from an airport after a vacation abroad. My dad (a BMW driver) asked me what the external temperature was. I was chuckling because this is not the kind of car that would have something as frivolous as a thermometer telling you the external temperature. I told him to stick his hand out the window and tell us.
Pros
Durability, reliability, and the vague sense of purposefulness define this car. You feel like you could drive through anything in it. It's also deceptively fast for a car of its size and completely aerodynamic design, which I think is due to the high power to weight ratio. It has a lot of simplistic, time-tested technology, i.e. less to break down.
Cons
Gas mileage is frankly bad and only gets worse with age. I have also encountered some problems with getting into parking garages, as the roof rack adds about six inches to the clear height of the vehicle. Supposedly the height is 6'2", but I've never felt comfortable parking in a garage with a clearance posted as less than 6'7".
2007 Nissan Xterra - Unbreakable
I've had my 2007 Nissan Xterra for 11 years now, and even though it's only at 100,000 miles, it has never failed to get the job done. I haven't treated it particularly nicely (a few gaps of time between oil changes and new brake fluid), and it has still always performed like a champ. Even though it's a larger car, it is surprisingly maneuverable and has some pretty good pickup. What stands out most is its reliability. Mine has been in three separate accidents and withstood weather (hurricanes and blizzards among other events) that would have taken a toll on a less rugged and resistant vehicle. It does have it's downfalls. It's not fuel efficient by any standard, especially compared to the fuel economy of most cars today, so be prepared to drop a bit more than you'd want to at the pump.... Story
We would take my Xterra camping in the Georgia mountains every spring for a few reasons. The first is that it not only had enough room to haul everyone and their camping gear all in one vehicle, but we could also bring one less tent as the truck was big enough to sleep in once the seats had been put down. This also offered an enclosure with protection, air conditioning and heat should the weat... (more)
Pros
Smooth drive, very sturdy, good control, lasts for years, spacious
Cons
Bad gas mileage, not compact.
