2005 Nissan Xterra - Nissan Xterra
I am very glad I bought a 2005 Nissan Xterra. I bought it at a very good price, and so far, it has held its value very well. It is four-wheel drive, so it can get me off-road in the mountains and back without a worry. It sits up high and has a skid plate, so I do not have to worry about rocks damaging the bottom. It gets pretty good gas mileage for a sports utility vehicle. I get around 18-20 miles a gallon. It is on the loud side with wind noise, but the stock stereo does a good job combating the wind noise. The cargo area has a good deal of space. The back seat folds down all the way increasing the cargo area. On the roof there is a storage compartment where you can keep more gear. The tie down rack is a great place to put bikes or more storage. The buttons and knobs on the console ... (more)
Story
I drove it across the US. It did great in the mountains and the desert. Great vehicle that let me go to a lot of cool places.
Pros
I like the four-wheel drive. Lots of cargo space. Tough vehicle. It looks good. Easy maintenance. Roof cargo space. Full-size spare tire. Good price. Keeps its value. Seats comfortable. Cruise control. Towing amount good. Easy to drive. Easy to park. Fun to drive. Sits up high.
Cons
Gas mileage is not as good as I wish. Acceleration is a little slow. No built-in GPS. No rear view camera. No side airbags. No compass. No leather. No touchscreen. No Apple play. No aux cable.
No USB port. No adaptive speed control. No automatic seat control. No OnStar control. No self parking. No DVD player. No seat back entertainment. No vacuum for dirt. Fuel sensor shorts out.
2005 Nissan Xterra -
My Nissan Xterra has served me very well on long drives and short commutes over the past seven years that I've owned it. No serious repair issues have come up yet, though I do expect some as I pass 150,000 miles. It's a very versatile vehicle, and it has held together really well despite getting pretty heavy use over the years.
Story
Many of my friends have been from other countries and don't have cars, so I started picking them up in my car for outings, as many as could fit, and had an informal "bus" route to get people to and from their homes and social events. They all have fond memories of being bused around in my car, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the ability to haul them all around town comfortably and safely for the p... (more)
Pros
I love how spacious it is. Five people can fit comfortably, six if there's a small brave person. I can fold down the seats and fit two bikes with room for two people in front. I can even fit an entire couch if I want. The V6 engine has great pick-up when I need to get into fast-moving traffic, despite being a big vehicle. It didn't come with running boards—I had to install those myself—but otherwise the design of the vehicle is great and very stylish. The 4WD is a great feature to have, for a sense of security and freedom at least, when there's ice on the roads.
Cons
Some parts like sensors have failed periodically that, without the internet and code reader, would require a repair shop visit. Idiosyncrasies with the VDC seem to have fixed themselves over time, so some things may be computer-related. Fortunately a shade-tree mechanic could maintain one of these quite easily under 150,000 miles. I know to expect some higher-mileage issues soon, the wheel bearings in particular. Gas mileage could be better, with 20 MPG highway being the most I've gotten, but it's not surprising given the age and size of the vehicle.
