I have been a fan of Nissan trucks and cars for over twenty years. Each has gone over 200,000 miles with minimal problems. I like that my Xterra sits up high and is easy to drive. The body is solid and shows little signs of deterioration. It looks much newer than it is. The Xterra is roomy enough to haul supplies. When the rear seats are folded away there is ample room to accommodate my two large dogs. A couple of features that have let me down are the air conditioning and the CD player. Interestingly enough, both broke down around 150,000 miles on both of the Nissans I have owned. I previously owned a Frontier 4 door truck which is very similar in design to the Xterra. My current vehicle is sixteen years old and has not needed any major repairs. Keep up with the recommended maintenanc... (more)
Story
I took my aging greyhound on one last camping trip to the desert to watch the meteor showers. The temperature dropped more than I anticipated over the course of the night and we woke up in our tent super cold. The back of the Xterra, with the seats folded down, was comfy enough for us both to stretch out and go back to sleep.
Pros
Dependable. Stays looking sharp for the life of the vehicle. I can expect the truck to run for over 200,000 miles. Roomy. Solid. Practical.
Cons
CD player doesn't last the life of the vehicle. Air conditioning unit doesn't last the life of the vehicle. Poor gas mileage.

I love my Xterra. I have driven it across the country 4 times and gone on many additional road trips. I believe the gas mileage is good for an SUV of that year. The car has 4 wheel drive which is a life saver during the winter. I love the stadium seating (back row of seats is higher than the front seats, it feels like there's more room back there). I love how the seats fold down and you can "car camp" pretty comfortably. For the most part, the engine is a soft purr but it can be a little squeaky when I first start it if it's really cold/hot outside. It drives/handles nice in all weather.
Story
My favorite memory is moving across country. I had just bought my Xterra to pull a uhaul trail and was a little worried at how it would do. Turns out there was nothing to worry about. I ended up making many detours to see cool things because the car was such a trooper.
Pros
Seats that fold down and create enough room to sleep. Stadium seating gives the feel of more room in the backseat. Everything is easy to find like the latch that opens the hood. The 4 wheel drive is an awesome feature, I use it every winter and have never had an issue getting around.
Cons
I do not like having to use the upgraded fuel which costs more. I also don't like that there aren't any air vents in the backseat area. Alos, the back windows don't roll down all the way.
