2014 Nissan Versa - I love my Crosstour!
My family always loved Toyota for their reliability. However, ever since the early 2000s, Toyota's quality has remained stagnant and their cars seem more suitable for retirees, according to the general consensus throughout the "autosphere". Apart from Lexus, their cars aren't really all that. In comes Honda. My family bought our first Honda way back in 2003 for my second oldest brother, which he drove until just last year when he opted to get an Infiniti. I at the time had a 2007 Honda Accord CR-V EX which I loved, but needed to get rid of as the extended warranty was coming to a close. I chose the 2014 Honda Crosstour in V6 trim with leather. I really love the design of the Crosstour because it combines elegance, conservative lines and European stylesmanship in one great product. The ... (more)
Story
About six months post purchase, I decided to take a trip of California Highway 1 all the way to Seattle, and then a quick weekend trip to Vancouver, BC, Canada. It was by the far the most enjoyable and comfortable ride I'd had in a Japanese car.
Pros
Some of the great things about the Crosstour is of course its design. It may look like an Accord at first glance, but unlike its elder brother, it's a rebel when it comes to 21st century design. It comes with a push-start-stop button for ease of ignition, so you don't end up fumbling your keys and possibly damaging the ignition port or scratching up the interior. It's got an easy to use and brilliantly designed information display with multi disc changer and an easy to use climate control system. In addition, the controls are also available on the steering wheel so you don't distract yours... (more)
Cons
The only things I can complain about are the price for starters. My chosen model trim level clocked in at around $30,000. That, in my opinion, is far, far too much for a Honda that serves as a general family car or for one for a young suburbanite such as myself. The temperature control knob is basically a flip switch that doesn't make sense and isn't very intuitive. The switch is too far away from the main display and you're either going to have to look at switch, display the road. I'd recommend the road and pulling over or asking a passenger to adjust the temperature for you.
2014 Nissan Versa -
The Versa is a great value car. It is extraordinary to get a brand new car with so many options for such a great price. The car appears to be small from the outside but is incredibly roomy on the interior. The Versa provides a smooth ride on the highway and plenty of space in the hatchback to store suitcases. The car sits low to the ground, which makes it easy for my beagle to hop up into the backseat for trips to the dog park. Gas mileage around town is exceptional. The car has also been very reliable with trips to the mechanic for oil changes only. The ride is not particularly quiet on the highway, and I’m not sure how safe the car would be in a high velocity crash, but I feel perfectly safe in the car while driving around town.
Story
The car sits low to the ground, which makes it easy for my beagle to hop up into the backseat for trips to the dog park. She likes to stand on the console between seats and watch me drive (or maybe she is checking herself out in the rear view mirror). After we visit the dog park, she usually curls up to sleep in the back.
Pros
Getting a brand new car for $12,000 is amazing. The Versa has an incredibly roomy on the interior. It did take some time to get used to the exterior styling. I thought it was a bit boxy at first, but after receiving three compliments from different friends about the looks of the car, I am convinced that Nissan designers are ahead of the curve on style. It is very easy to maneuver into tight parking spaces, which is extremely important in an urban environment. Gas mileage around town is exception. The car is very reliable.
Cons
The Versa is not particularly quiet on the highway, and I’m not sure how safe the car would be in a high velocity crash, but I feel perfectly safe in the car while driving around town. Future models might benefit from sound absorbing materials and added air bags.
