This vehicle was purchased when it was already a couple years old with 30K+ miles. From the very beginning, it has been the best car I've ever owned. The adjustable seats are very comfortable, even for long trips. Specifically, the adjustable lumbar support is a lifesaver - not to mention the "bun warmers." Car now has over 230K+ miles on it, and it still has the same engine/transmission. Only issue that does not seem to be fixable is the sensor harness. Different sensors have been replaced. The entire harness has been replaced, and still the check engine light and the ABS light stays on, even though there's nothing wrong with either the engine or the brake system. This is the only negative I have to offer with this vehicle. What is the one thing about the car that I will measure all ... (more)
Story
I have taken this vehicle on many a long road trip. Beach. Mountains. Cross country. It has stood up to some heavy use. It showed it's worth driving down the mountain after a major ice/snowstorm. I was the first vehicle off the mountain behind the snowplow. What was normally a three hour trip took six, but she took the mountain roads in stride and got me safely to work - two weekends in a row!
Pros
Climate control - I will never own another vehicle without it. Bun warmers! Actually ties with #1 as a deal breaker for future officers. Adjustable seats with lumbar support. Back seat access to trunk area - nice for long trips. Great gas mileage - I can do a six hour trip on a full tank of gas. Easy to maintain.
Cons
The sensor harness will not fix. ABS light and check engine light stay on all the time, even though there are no issues with either the engine or the brake system and the entire harness system has been replaced.

This car has proven to be very reliable. We had 2 of them and only lost 1 when it was rear ended and totaled while waiting at a stop light. The one we have left has about 157,000 miles on it, and has never broken down while we were driving it.
Story
I drove through a flooded parking lot and the car was still fine. I drove 5 hours through a blizzard and did not get stuck driving this vehicle.
Pros
The car has excellent acceleration. In addition, with the SE (sports edition) trim, you can really feel the road. It makes driving any other car boring. The car survived Chicago winters for 9 years, but has no rust on it. With regular maintenance, a car like this should get about 300,000 miles on it before you think about trading it in. We have purchased other new cars, but kept the 2002 Maxima because it is such a good, fun to drive, reliable vehicle. I have driven newer cars that drove nowhere close to as good a drive as this one. We plan on repairing the minor items that are wrong with ... (more)
Cons
On a long trip (like a 12 hour drive), you may get stiff when you exit the vehicle due to the fact that it is low and close to the road. For a long trip, a higher captains type chair is always more comfortable. Also, the trim we bought was only available with a sun roof. That was ok until the sunroof of another car we own was destroyed by a boulder flying out of an uncovered rock hauling truck at 70 mph. Also, when the car was fairly new, the oil pan was loose and repaired by the dealer. The road feel may not be smooth enough for some people, but we like to feel the road when we drive. Als... (more)

The dealership had a lot of cars available, and the facility was nice and clean. It was my first time buying a car, and the sales person made sure I was well informed. She took the time to teach me about all the different cars that might meet my criteria, but didn't pressure me to make a decision too quickly. When I've been back to the dealership for service, they've been fast and thorough. There is also a nice, comfortable little waiting area with a view of the service center so you can see your car being worked on.

The price of the car was already set, and was well under the blue book value. The "sales" people (in quotes because they make no commission, and are there just to assist) were very helpful and friendly throughout the process. I was able to test drive the car myself. Overall the entire process was easy and quick.
