2005 Nissan Maxima Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2005 Nissan Maxima - It had potential, but I was unaware of its major problems when purchasing the vehicle.
I bought this car after doing some research online and paid $3,000. Initially, it was a good car to get me from Point A to Point B. I was in desperate need of a car but wanted something that didn't look like it was going to breakdown at any moment. I dished out the few thousand and was satisfied for a few weeks. There were many problems with the car that were not told to me. The power steering made it difficult to make any sort of turns in the car and it was always a major pain to park and not feel like I was going to hit the cars occupying the nearby spaces. What I liked about the car was its build and the fact that it had a sunroof. The interior was nice. The car looked nice on the outside, but was a complete disaster while driving it. It was unreliable and I had to make stops while ... (more)
Story
One memorable story with this car was when I was unaware that it was going to rain overnight, so as soon as I heard rain drops on the roof, I ran out to the car to close the sunroof, but it was too late. The sunroof would no longer close due to an electrical issue. This brought me a lot of anxiety when I would have to park somewhere for a few hours. One time, I drove my friends and I and left ... Pros
The build of the car and interior were nice. The gas mileage was good. What won me over was the sunroof. (Never had a car with one before.) The speakers sounded good. It was a comfortable car to be in.
Cons
It was a complete nightmare to drive. It was unreliable and put me in a few scary situations. It randomly stalled. I put a lot of work into trying to maintain it, but I could never figure out what the problem quite was.
2005 Nissan Maxima - Good Full-Sized Family Sedan
A 2005 Nissan Maxima is a full-sized sedan and can be intimidating for someone more used to compact coupes (like myself), but I have come to really enjoy this car. Anyone who has multiple passengers in the back seat, including a car seat, will appreciate the large back seat and with its V6 engine, it has a surprising amount of speed for a car its size.
After 10 years, very little maintenance has been required outside the regular interval preventative maintenance and with the exception of one or two components it looks like a car 5 years younger. Accent and trim pieces have begun to show their age but the seats, interior, and paint still look fantastic.
Story
When moving into our new home, my wife and myself traveled to IKEA, a typical flat-pack furniture store and, with both front seats forward, managed to pack most of our house in this car. We had a coffee table between the two front seats and It wasn't a comfortable ride, but we managed.
Pros
Good quality build.
Surprisingly fast and comfortable to drive. Not a car where you "feel the road"
Has maintained its looks for 10 years.
Cons
Terrible turning radius that can make smaller parking lots and maneuvering a pain.
Both (of two total) 9v cigarette lighter receptacles have gone out.
Expensive to perform maintenance on. Parts and labor.
Pretty poor gas mileage. Averaging 19-23mpg city and highway
