I bought a Mitsubishi Mirage vehicle primarily because it was an affordable new car I could finance for my wife that had great gas mileage (it gets approximately 40 mpg) and some cool custom features that could be added on. The custom features we added from the standard package that my wife really liked were a back-up camera, parking sensors, and GPS system. It was one of the few smaller footprint (without going electric) vehicles that was a five seater, as well as that it actually fit a big guy like me (I'm 6 foot 2 inches, and weigh approx. 330 pounds). However, I fit but not very comfortably. And even for my two daughter's car seats in the back, it feels very crammed very quickly. The trunk space is minimal which one would expect for a compact car. But once you're using it everyday,... (more)
Story
Because of this being a compact car, I'm able to squeeze through tight spaces other cars can't -- which can be pretty funny to be able to be on my way continuing my day when other cars are stuck in traffic.
Pros
Great gas mileage (40 mpg). Cool package add on options. Back-up camera, parking sensors, and GPS system. Five-seater compact, which is hard to find. More environmentally friendly than most in class. Large option of colors. Unique car.
Cons
Horrible horsepower (listed online as 75 hp). Lack of space. Driver and passenger, very minimal trunk storage. Also when doing repairs, it will be cramped quarters. Difficult to get services done, and difficult to order repair parts.

Bought the car new, and it has been awesome. Perfect for getting around town. It looks small on the outside but does not feel like a small car when driving it. Driver sits pretty high up for a small car, and even though it is small, it is comfortable for road trips. Gas mileage is fantastic...I consistently get 30-35 mpg without trying. Handles well in the snow. Mitsubishis new car warranty (5 year/60k mile) means that it has been 100% trouble-free and has only needed routine maintenance oil changes and the like every few months. From a purely cosmetic standpoint, the 2014 model year offered several unusual colors. The option of a bright color on this small car is great—you are very visible in traffic. The last car I had was a color that "blended in," and I had a lot of near-m... (more)
Story
You don't see many Mirages in the bright green color. One of my coworkers saw a bright green Mirage being driven by a dark-haired female and assumed it was me. He drove up behind the car, honking & waving and generally acting like an idiot. Pulled up next to her at the next stop light and realized it wasn't me and felt very foolish. Told me about it when he got to work.
Pros
Gas mileage, low price for new vehicle, great warranty, great value—lots of nice features (smart key, upgraded stereo, cruise) you wouldn't expect in an economy car, great color choices, and, yeah, the gas mileage bears a second mention...it's that good.
Cons
If you need a family car to accommodate more than 2 people, the Mirage will probably be uncomfortably small. It is an economy car, so the ride is noisier/rougher than a larger, more expensive vehicle.
