The 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer ES is a good economy car that gets good mileage overall. It has good but not great off the starting line power. Highway merging is generally not a problem, and it could use some more responsiveness overall. It is comfortable and a good, fun ride. It has good room for a small car. I also enjoy the visibility out of the back windshield. For a budget, it works very well. The default stereo has some decent bass from the back and crisp highs. I would definitely recommend an upgrade for it if you are an audiophile. Airbags are good, and they underwent the standard recall maintenance for many airbags that year. Tires are standard size. Oil changes are mostly what you need, and there isn't too much more for maintenance so far. Also spent time polishing the headlamps ... (more)
Story
I had these two subwoofers installed, and it was great riding around waking up the neighborhood. But seriously, enjoyed upgrading the sound system and made it much more fun.
Pros
Good fuel economy, reliable, no engine or transmission problems overall. Value for the money and easy maintenance.
Cons
Would like a bit more pickup speed when merging. Would also like more responsiveness when accelerating.

This vehicle is a car you can trust. All that you need to do is fill it up with gas and go. I did the regular maintenance checks when it was suggested to do so, and besides that the car never asked for anything. I have driven this car for 10 years now and its still going strong. I have driven it for 75,000 miles, and everything sounds good and the power is still the same. I must admit that I treat the car softly and that I never put it under much stress, but it has certainly been the best car that I have owned. The MPG were okay, I usually did 26 MPG.
Story
I once crossed a path of sand with it and it got through just fine, and a couple of hours later I saw a truck stuck in that same path of sand. So I felt kind of proud that my car had made it through.
Pros
The top positive things about this vehicle are its reliability, its smoothness while driving it and the comfort of the interior. It has the basic things that you can expect of car in the interior, but everything functions perfectly and it is also long lasting. I also really like the power of the car, because it can go fast silently, and the suspension system works really nice.
Cons
The only two things that I would criticize about this car is that the audio system is too simple and can only read CDs, so I changed it as soon as I got it, and the fabric of the seats (I do not have leather seats) looks worn out kind of fast, so I had to change it also in my 6th year with the car.
