This care has been well used and loved. When I decided to buy this car, I knew exactly what I wanted, although I would have been happier at the time with a 2007 as that was the last year it was manufactured. I waited until I found a Mariner, and drove further than if I had been willing to settle for a different brand. I bought the car without a test drive, and as it turns out, it has been reliable with the exception of once, after about 8 years of owning it, the battery suddenly and without prior notice, died. Of course, that was a five year battery, so can't really blame the car! Never a problem with starting or stalling. Have driven every day for 10 years with no problems. There are currently 120,000 miles on the engine and the car is just starting to have some rattles and I'm thinki... (more)
Story
The car was bought in FL, and came equipped with seat warmers, and at the time I thought how ridiculous, but when I moved to IN for 9 months (including the winter) I would not have gone anywhere that winter unless I had had them!
Pros
This car handles well, and the backup warning signal comes in handy especially when people walk behind you when you're backing out of a parking space!! It's a small SUV, but with the seats folded down, you can fit a lot into it. The back window opens without having to open the hatch, which is handy for loading groceries and the defrost mode on the heater works very quickly an... (more)
Cons
The only two things that I can think of that were disappointing were that the brakes (after 7 years of ownership) began dragging and sticking causing a serious problem with gas mileage and safety. I had brakes replaced (even though one side was ok) and haven't had problems since then. Also the interior panels have lost the glue and have come off of two doors. Could easily have them replaced and should do this, it may make a difference in whether I keep her as an extra car or trade her in. I'm in need of an 8 seater at this time.

2006 Mercury Mariner - I feel safe driving this car.

I am very happy with my purchase. I had never owned a Mercury before and had very little knowledge of its history as a whole. I bought the car pre-owned, and the mileage was great and the price as well. It is an SUV, which I really like because I am short and can't see over other cars and trucks. I feel safer in an SUV. The car has performed quite well with regular maintenance. The cost of oil changes and brakes are not expensive with this particular make and model. The interior carpet on the flooring is still clean and holds up quite well. The only negative experience is the vinyl panel on the rear passenger side fell away from the door. It was an easy fix with a good adhesive that has not fallen off again to date. The tires on the vehicle are not oddly sized or expensive depending on... (more)
Story
When I posted a picture of the car in the driveway, it displayed verticle, so the car looked liked it was shooting up into the sky. We have since named it the Silver Rocket.
Pros
Low mileage. At the time, it was a newer model SUV.
Cons
The vinyl on the rear passenger door was falling off.
