I like the size of the car. This is the first hatch back I have owned and thought it might be too small, but its great when parking. I can easily squeeze into tight parking spots. I drive the freeway everyday and its much easier to get on and off than the larger car I had previously. I like that the gear shift is not in the center console. I love the rear windshield wiper!
Story
My husband owns a vintage/antique store and on the way home I found an old sewing machine still in its cabinet. I HAD to pick this up, so I go it into the trunk but had to tie down the trunk. I am sure I looked pretty funny going to down the street with an old sewing machine in the back.
Pros
The size of the car makes it easy to park, but the trunk still fits all my sons stuff when taking him to and from activities. I really like that the car lock button is in the center console, to remind me to lock the car when I get in. The car has a USB charger port, which is very convenient.
Cons
The little blue light that comes on shortly when you first start the car. Which is normal according to the car manual, but very annoying. The O/D drive button on the gear shift is in a place you can hit it accidentally very easily. I wish the inside light was brighter for the rear of the car and trunk.

2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Awkward layout

For its overall size, I found the car to be roomy enough. The cargo space in the rear hatchback was the main reason I ended up purchasing. It gets outstanding gas mileage, better than advertised in my experience. It is definitely a city car, though, since acceleration is sluggish and can stutter when gears shift. The placement of power lock button on the center console, practically underneath the brake handle is a huge inconvenience. Additionally, the ONLY lock present on the vehicle is on the driver side door. This particular model did not come with a key fob for remote entry so I literally have to unlock the driver's side door, lean in, press the unlock button, and THEN I can open whichever door I need, including the rear hatch. The audio system is completely proprietary so if you... (more)
Story
I took a weekend trip down to Key West, FL to visit a friend. Unbeknownst to me, parking in the "touristy" area was hard to come by. With the Mazda2's small footprint I was able to nab a great spot that was rendered otherwise unusable by a large van's inconsiderate park job. Not only was I close to the action, but... FREE parking!
Pros
Great gas mileage. Roomy interior for its size. Plenty of cargo space. Fold down, split rear seats. Low price point. Small size often got me great parking spaces.
Cons
Atrociously located power lock button. Acceleration leaves a lot to be desired. Custom design of audio interface equals difficult third party upgrades. Does not have remote entry. Fixed, LONG radio antenna, does not retract, looks cheap.
