Overall good car, but not a lot of space for passengers. This car handles like a car, and does well on highways and curvy roads alike. The gas mileage is good for a crossover vehicle.
Story
We drove the car to my family's house in WV and stopped at a beautiful spot on top of the mountain. If was very peaceful and quiet.
Pros
There is room to put a bicycle in the back of the vehicle if the back seats are put down. I only have to put my bike on the rack on top of the car if there is more than one bike, or if the back is packed for a road trip.
Cons
The back seat is rather small. If I sit in the back, my knees touch the seat in front of me. Our child's car seat being in the car requires removal of the head rest from the seat in front of it. This makes that seat very uncomfortable for long trips, as well as a bit unsafe. The hatchback door is designed so that it is impossible to mount a bike rack on the back of the car. The car doesn't come with a tow hitch standard. This means that, if the back of the vehicle is packed for a trip, my bike has to go on top of the car. I am not a tall person, so I often have to enlist the help of my hu... (more)

I absolutely love my CX-5. Not only does it look great, but it is just fun to drive. It has that "zoom zoom" that Mazda advertises. The acceleration and handling are great, and I really enjoy the drive. The gas mileage has been surprisingly good for a slightly larger vehicle, even with lots of in city driving. I have owned it for over two years and have had absolutely zero maintenance issues outside of regular service. The cabin is very comfortable, even in the lower level cloth seat options. Passengers in the back seat also have plenty of space and is a great vehicle to take on a road trip, even with several adults. I am absolutely spoiled now with the back up camera and the blind spot monitors & I can't imagine how many little dings and dents those have saved me over the years. The o... (more)
Story
We went floating down the river on inner tubes and needed to get them to the river after inflating them. I managed to get five fully inflated inner tubes in the vehicle with me on the way to our day on the water!
Pros
There are a lot of things to like about the CX-5. In terms of performance, it has been incredibly fun to drive, gotten good gas mileage, and has handled well in all conditions (including heavy Lake Effect snow in Buffalo, NY). Aside from regular service, I have not had to take the car in for service at all. That is a huge relief in just knowing that you have such a reliable vehicle in the driveway. In regards to the comfort aspects of the vehicle, the upgraded BOSE sound system has been great. The moon roof also makes the interior seem much roomier. I also like the touch screen interface a... Cons
The negatives about the CX-5 are pretty minimal. First, I think the touch screen interface could do much more, it isn't as easy to use as you think it should be. Linking phones into the system isn't the easiest thing to do and it is confusing to charge and link a phone into the system at the same time. In terms of the radio, it is annoying that there is no way to just scan the radio stations from the steering wheel buttons, you can only move to pre set stations. Another small issue is the rear view camera, it is a fantastic tool, but too often when it is snowy, icy, or rainy, the lens are ... (more)

Of all the Japanese car makers, Mazda has for the past 10 years been working hardest to create visually attractive, well-equipped, long-lasting cars. That's saying a lot considering that it's competitors are Toyota, Honda and Nissan, Mazda is, I believe, the smallest manufacturer among that list, but their level of success stands well above the others.
Story
Living in the "frozen north", near the U.S./Canadian border, this car is driven in all kinds of wintry weather. With a set of good winter tires, I have never been hesitant to take my car out on the roads regardless of the weather. I have passed by quite a number of high-priced SUVs stranded on the median or the shoulder of I-89 in Vermont when I was having no problem at all. I always stop to r... (more)
Pros
The design language currently employed by Mazda makes their cars the best looking vehicles of all the Japanese manufacturers. Toyota and Honda have lost their way in terms of styling and produce cars with garish, angular front ends that are impossible to love. As well, the Mazda interiors are finished in unusually high quality materials, comparable to much more expensive cars. The fit and finish are superb, the seats extremely comfortable, the ride is quiet (previously not a Mazda strong point), the list of included features is perfect. The durability and reliability of the car is among th... (more)
Cons
I cannot find anything about the car that I would consider a "con." It is the closest to being the perfect car that I have ever owned.
