Kia Sportage Owner Ratings & Reviews

2001 Kia Sportage - I would purchase another KIA it has 4 wheel drive which is good for bad weather I we have had our share of it in Missouri. It is very handle for seniors to get in and out....I have 2 forms of radios and a disc player and the newer cars don't offer that.

There is nothing that I dislike about the KIA I enjoy driving it especially in the winter when I can use the four wheel drive. I know its older now and I can't take road trips however, when I rent a car I try really hard to get a KIA. I have had no major problems other than age. I have purchased new tires once or twice cannot remember how many time. The radio is still working, seats are still movable. I am the primary driver.....Now its about time to give her over to my daughter....I will be purchasing a new one KIA I hope the husband has the last choice, for I am retiring soon. I would recommend the KIA to any person young or old. I brought new tires and they were white walls, it easy to clean even for a senior. The color was very important too me it is grey. The motor was located un... (more)
Story
I test drove it on the track. I enjoy racing. My favorite was four wheeling in the snow.
Pros
This was the last car I purchased before I retired I paid it off the day I retired and that was a major item for me. I enjoyed the KIA and cried when I had to give it up. I called her "baby" although she is still in the family I ride in sometime with my daughter. I also like it fact that I don't have to turn the lights off when I get into it like I do with the new car. I don't like driving with my lights on. Yea! I'm from the old school. I don't think I had to purchase know more than two sets of windshield blades.
Cons
The transmission was located under the motor and it was difficult for an mechanic to work on if they didn't have a shop.

Mini SUV with full size SUV features and yet gets good gas mileage. Smooth quiet ride with great balance. I deliver newspapers 365 nights a year and this vehicle holds the 500 plus papers and throwing ability for me is a ease. Great acceleration for a mini SUV with a turbo pass burst for passing ability. Back seats fold down to allow for a LARGE capacity storage area. I was able to use this vehicle for moving from home to home because of the large cargo area. Under the back storage area above the spare tire is a compartment storage bin for storing rope, tools, gloves, etc. The Kia has a SUV height which is great and the windshield is large for great viewing. 2 Separate charging outlets allows for more convenience. The outside body is sleek and streamline. The rear end lights are large ... (more)
Story
I would take my granddaughter to the river when it was low and bring along my Doberman and Jack Russell Terrier too. The back floor area was large enough for my 110 lb. Doberman to sit right in front of my 5 year old granddaughter in her car seat. The Jack Russell Terrier would sit on the back seat next to my granddaughter as well. My granddaughter was always so happy that there was room for C... (more)
Pros
100,000 Miles or 10 year bumper to bumper warranty. Great maneuverability because its a mini SUV with all the storage capability of a larger SUV Looks great got a lot of compliments on it. The seats are made of durable material. All four doors had inside compartment bins with drink holder slots. There was a fold down arm rest in the rear seat.
Cons
The 100,000 or 10 year bumper to bumper warranty wasn't clearly defined by the car salesman. Bumper to bumper warranty only applied to the first 50,000 miles.

I think this is the best car I have ever driven. It handles amazing in the snow and is great for northern winters! It handles like a dream. It gets up and goes when I want it to, and I can easily switch into Eco mode when I am exploring around the city. Eye catching and efficient!
Story
We brought our vehicle to the local white mountains. It handles the incline great, and everyone had a great time. Even my son when he spilt his milkshake on my car! The clean up was easy, and you can't even see it today!
Pros
The seat are comfortable and spacey. There is plenty of room in the cargo area for all of the things needed for a great lake day. The handling in the winter could not be better. The dark seats make for easy clean up. I get about 25 miles to the gallon, which is pretty good! Hill assist makes it great for living in the north. It prevents you from rolling backwards and allows you to stay at a steady speed when going up a steep hill.
Cons
The satellite radio that the car features is pretty useless unless you plan on renewing the membership. They constantly are sending me ads in the mail, basically begging, for me to renew. It is not ideal. Another negative for this vehicle is no spare tire. The Kia dealership told me I would have to call the hotline they provide to get a tow truck. Also, the traction control tends to kick on even when just driving in the rain, even after I have tried disabling it. Also, keep in mind the side mirrors do not defrost!
