The first time I saw the 2001 Kia Rio, I realized that Kia was set to become a greater car company that it currently was. As most people know, they licensed the Mazda 323 and turned it into a Korean car in the early years of the model. As it was near the beginning of the production cycle, I was able to allow for the fact that there weren't a lot of additional features. The car was inexpensive and got good gas mileage. Those were the most important things. In addition to that, the handling proved to be equal to the Corolla and other cars in its class. The gas mileage was also routinely around 30 on the highway, which made it quite inexpensive to operate.
Story
We took the car to the Wallowas and were able to spend about half the money that we normally do for gasoline. The guests that we had appreciated the fact that someone cut us off on the interstate, but because our car was so short, they completely missed us when they entered our lane. The car toured well overall.
Pros
The car was able to handle well and get great gas mileage. The substandard-size engine actually output more power from an end-user perspective than many cars with more CCs in their engines. The brakes were quite strong initially. One time, I almost hit a deer and was able to hit the brakes without skidding, allowing the animal to escape.
Cons
Although the handling was good, the handling in snow and black ice was not as strong as competitors like Subaru. The main reason for this is that the car was so light that if it started to slide, it would be hard to get it to right itself. For this reason, one night my friend accidentally hit a house. She hit black ice on a corner and apparently ended up 'tapping' into the bedroom of the owner. Rather than blame the car, I ended up looking at her inability to drive under the worst conditions. So we went out and trained until she felt comfortable avoiding houses on her own.

This gold Kia Rio was a great little car. It lasted for a very long time. It was drove across many states and had very few problems with it. It was taken camping on many rough dirt roads. We drove this car across several states many times through winter storms and hot weather. I wish they still made this car because I would probably buy it again, what a great little car.
Story
It was always fun taking it to the coast or up into the mountains to go camping.
Pros
The vehicle just ran and ran. It had very few mechanical problems, and it was taken up and down rough dirt roads camping over several years. The stereo was good, and it got really good gas mileage. It drove through severe snow storms and intense heat. It just always ran and ran.
Cons
One of the only bad things of this car was they used a cheap clip on the door handle linkage and after a few years it would fail. To get the door open to fix the problem was almost impossible the way they designed the car. If they had used a piece of metal instead of a cheap piece of plastic, then there would have been almost no complaints from this little car.

The service! This was my first car purchase from a dealership and they really did a great job guiding me through it. The staff was very specific and helpful when it came to all the messy paperwork. They let me take my time during the whole process, so I really felt comfortable when I decided which car was best for me. I will be there when it is time for car #2

This is a small car lot with a small town vibe, which I love. They are very friendly, personable, and not at all pushy which is very appreciated. This is a very decently priced car lot with a great selection. We actually found a van we could afford. In fact, our last two automobiles have been from Five Star Auto.
