2008 Kia Forte5 - Great car to get me where I need to go.

I was initially very surprised at how much I like the Kia Spectra5. The car handles quite well and is a joy to drive. I own the Spectra5 with manual transmission and it was a great car to learn on, very forgiving. The Kia gets up to speed admirably and can be zippy in and out of traffic. Friends are surprised at how fun the car is to drive. It has held up to wear and tear, going from the rainy and mild west coast across the country to the salted streets of the snowy Midwest. The hatchback is a great feature and has allowed more than enough space for me to pack up my life (twice), most recently with a dog in tow. It is the perfect car for a college/graduate student.
Story
I love traveling and thus far, my Spectra5 has gotten me where I need to go; graduate school, a summer internship, you name it. My dog and I are thrilled to have all of the space that comes with a Spectra5 and plan on keeping it for a long time.
Pros
My favorite aspect of the Kia Spectra5 is the hatchback. Having extra room and fold-down seats has made moving and many trips to the airport nearly effortless. The Spectra5 is also quite compact, allowing for maneuverability into tight parking spots and down winding roads. Finally, though this was an after market (but before my ownership) addition, the loud muffler makes my little Kia sound quite intimidating and often turns heads.
Cons
The most frustrating aspect about this vehicle is that the automatic lights sometimes do not function. The Kia Spectra5 is supposed to have a feature where, even if you leave your lights on, they turn off when the car is turned off. I recognize that I may have received a lemon, but this feature is not reliable and has led to dead batteries on nearly a dozen occasions, even after replacing the battery. Additionally, there is a large degree of dead space before the clutch catches. This is probably another idiosyncrasy and since I learned on this car it hasn't been much of an issue, but it is... This car is absolutely fantastic. The leather powered/heated seats are very comfortable and the entire interior of the car gives you the feel of a luxury car of a much higher price point. The dashboard and console have a look of sophistication about them and they are lined with a faux wood grain. The exterior of the car also has a look of luxury about it. It resembles some of the cars from other luxury car makers such as Jaguar and Mercedes. It's V6 engine has the power to get you where you need to go while being nearly silent.
Story
This car is the first car that I took cross country and it held up wonderfully. I took it from Kentucky to Montana to Wyoming and had no issues with it whatsoever.
Pros
Heated seats, an electronic had to display various functions. A nearly silent ride, and very roomy.
Cons
Under the hood is covered with plastic to hide the mechanics and make things look visually appealing but it also greatly hinders maintenance.
