Jeep Wrangler Owner Ratings & Reviews

2001 Jeep Wrangler -
I always wanted a Jeep. Mine is yellow and sexy...however, when I first got it and reality set in, well, there are definitely some realities that come with a Jeep that you should know when considering one. It is not a particularly comfortable ride. I am used to it now, but when I first got it, I found it quite jarring. It is important to remember that although cute and trendy, this type of Jeep was built as a utility vehicle for the army, so it is pretty damn basic. Even fully loaded, it's never going to feel luxurious, not even slightly. That said, it is a fun car to drive. I have enjoyed having it. And let me tell you what, Jeep Wranglers hold their value. It is quite surprising. Mine is a 2001, people offer me 5-6k all the time for it without it even being for sale, and it is not in... (more)
Story
I live in Austin, TX, where it gets incredibly hot in the summer. Let me tell you, there is nothing better than driving that car with the top off at about 3am in the summertime; it is lovely.
Pros
It is a sexy car. It is a fun car. You will enjoy a camaraderie with other Jeep owners, that is no joke. You will get a tan. It is pretty easy to fix yourself even for a beginner. If you do have any trouble, fear not, another Jeep should be along shortly and they will pull over and help you, and they generally know what they are talking about. You can fit in nearly any parking space.
Cons
It is way smaller than you might think. I lose it in parking lots all the time behind even small cars. I have had to make two trips bringing my groceries home before. I had to remove the back seat to make it in one trip. It is wide open and or easily accessed. You can't leave your stuff in your car at all. I have had my spare tire, stereo (not even a nice one) registration sticker stolen. Unless you have a hard top, don't bother locking it. It's too easy to cut the top, and you don't want your stuff stolen and have to replace the top. No two ways about it, you must wear a seatbelt every ti... (more)
2001 Jeep Wrangler - I wouldn't buy another one.
I had wanted a Jeep for a long time. Of course I did! They are fun and cool. I went to see a friend a few towns over, and her boyfriend had this yellow Jeep, and I fell in love with it. A few months later, my friend told me he was selling it, so I bought it for five grand. It had 100,000 miles on it but was in great shape. Immediately after taking ownership, the top began to literally fall apart at the seams. New tops are not cheap. To be honest, as in love with it as I was... driving it was a different story. As I said, my friend lived a few towns over, so I picked it up and had to drive it home. This is not a car you want to be driving at 70 mph. A semi passed me, and I thought I was a goner. It's like driving an orange juice can. Another thing I noticed is...well, I have always been... (more)
Story
A guy at the gym left a note on my car that said he had a bunch of Jeep stuff he didn't need anymore if I wanted it, so he gave me seat and steering wheel covers -- stuff like that. That was nice.
Pros
Good looking. Jeep people will always stop to help you if you need it. Surprisingly, it is really tiny...like Miata tiny. You can fit it in any space. It's nice to have the top off. There are lots of accessories for it if you are into that kind of thing. They hold value. Removable back seat.
Cons
Can't ever find it in the parking lot behind other cars. Very tiny. The top is a pain in the butt to take off. Easy target for thieves. Rough ride. Very high rollover risk. Expensive to replace top ($600). One word: cats.
