2016 Jeep Wrangler -
High off the ground, easy to see around the road. Great for summer and has two roof choices. Can be open air or enclosed.
Story
I drove in the mountains in an unknown area during a storm and had one road choice to drive on. A tree was slaying across the road, and it was dirt and slippery from rain, but we got thru in the Jeep! A car wouldn't have made it.
Pros
The canvas roof top opens for summer fun and air. There are no roads you can't drive on.
Cons
Uses a lot of gas. Poor mileage.
2005 Jeep Wrangler - Rugged, gas-guzzling, fun
Let's be clear, owning a Jeep Wrangler isn't just owning a vehicle, it's a lifestyle, like owning a high performance sports car or a convertible. There are practical reasons for owning one, especially if you live in a region with heavy inclement weather. But for the most part, it's not for practical reasons you own one. There are things that you just have to commit to, and accept as part of owning a wrangler; and it isn't for everyone. That said, I've known a lot of owners who sell theirs after a couple of years once the novelty wears off.
Story
Some friends and I went skiing one weekend and rented a house by the ski slopes. The road up to the house was winding, on a high grade incline, and would freeze during the night. Most of the others couldn't make it up in their cars-- not even a problem with the wrangler. Good times.
Pros
On snowy or icy mornings, I get a warm feeling knowing that my Jeep can handle the situation and can go where most vehicles can't go. It's a fun drive, especially during summers with the doors off and the top down. And you've joined an exclusive club once you own a wrangler, other wrangler owners will wave to you when you pass each other.
Cons
That said, it is not a practical vehicle for everyday use. If I average 15+ MPG, that is a good week, but I usually get about 11-14 mpg, and fill up once every week. There isn't a lot of trunk space; though you can remove the back seat to make room in back-- but then you not have a two seater. Security is also an issue if you have a soft top. People who "live out of their cars", i.e. who are use to keeping things in their cars, can't do this. Though, this can be a pro, there are lots of ways to customize it; which can be a money sink, especially during the honeymoon phase when you jus... (more)
