I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport. I love being able to drive down a country road with the roof and doors off on a hot summer day. I love the feeling of freedom that I experience when driving this vehicle. There are some squeaks that I hear on a regular basis, but my Jeep doesn't leave me stranded. It has a strong 4.0 Liter motor and seems like it will go forever.
Story
Took my Jeep to an off road park for the first time a year ago. This allowed me to see how capable the Jeep really is and to get it a little dirty!
Pros
Hands down, my favorite feature of this vehicle is the removable top and doors. The four wheel drive is strong and has gotten me out of some sticky situations. I like the simplicity of the interior. There are no computers and only the most basic knobs and buttons. I like that the back seat is able to be folded down and propped forward to provide a little bit of cargo space.
Cons
The back seat is very small. It is hard for two adults to fit, and when the back seat is in use, there is virtually no cargo space.

1997 Jeep Wrangler - Rugged.

Jeeps are notoriously tough, and the TJ line holds true to this mantra. My Jeep requires basic maintenance, and keeps going. The 4 cylinder engine I have is known as one of the best engines ever made. The suspension is fantastic, very durable, smooth ride. Very easy to work on, most engine components are on top of the engine and easily accessible with a basic mechanics set. Parts are easily obtainable, as many parts were used from 1997 - 2006. Going in and out of 4WD is easy, can do on the fly, auto locking hubs doesn't even require getting out of the Jeep to do so. The versatility of having a winterized vehicle to get around in the snow and ice, and also a "drop the top and ride around during the summer" make this an ideal vehicle to own for anyone. It's not a great family vehicle, an... (more)
Story
A friend of mine was stuck in the ice. I piled with my wife in my Jeep and went and go him. Road conditions were terrible, but I threw my Jeep in 4WD and took it easy, and went and got him and took him home and made it home. The Jeep did get a little loose, but my skill and it's performance kept us safe and on the road.
Pros
It is easy to work on, durable and versatile, (both a summer and winter vehicle). Parts are also easy to find.
Cons
Poor gas mileage, bad safety ratings for door impacts. Not much cargo room or space transport many people. Cold in the winter until vehicle warms up if one has a soft top, plastic windows don't hold heat very well.
