I have used my Jeep Grand Cherokee for ten years, and have many long road trips and strange adventures with it. I am not very good or consistent about upkeep or taking it into a store to have professionals look at it, but I have almost never had any problems with it until I hit around 350,000 miles.
Story
Every good road trip I've ever been on has been in this Jeep
Pros
Lots of space, leg room, head room, trunk space. Cup holders in good places, they don't get in the way, but are easily accessible to any seat in the vehicle. All the seats are comfortable and last forever Survived a young stupid teenager who couldn't drive, and lasted close to 375,000 miles in city and cross country.
Cons
Electrical work on rear brakes was one of the only constant upkeeps. I became very good at quickly changing brake lights, and always had an extra pair with some tools to install it at any given time, because I never found a dead tail light to be a surprise

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee - I have been very happy with my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

What I like most about the Jeep is how easy it is to work on and maintain. It's a great four wheeler off-road vehicle. It can go places most 4x4s have a rough time with. I have never had it break done on me. It is a very smooth and luxurious Inside. The engineers have put a lot of bells and whistles throughout the vehicle that you run into though using the car. For example, changing the brake pads is the easiest job I have ever done on any car.
Story
We took our kids to the off road 4x4 park and drove up some very steep and high hills. We were all amazed at how it handled everything we tried, and then we drove home in comfort.
Pros
The Jeep is rugged and built to last. Mine has a straight six-cylinder inline engine. I have 180,000 miles on it, and it still runs great. I have loaded camping gear on it and pulled a 18-ft. boat over 100 miles with six people and it did great. It is a DIY mechanics dream. It's built to be worked on. The brake pads are simple to change. The spark plugs are in easy reach. When driving down the freeway, the cab is air tight. No road noise when windows are rolled up. The steering is very responsive.
Cons
The gas mileage is only average about 18 - 21 mpg. The cost is high. I paid $25,000 in '97 for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 40,000 mile on it. Started having electrical problems (alarm system, psu, brake lights) when it was 12 years old.
