2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Praise for the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (with a huge "Caveat Emptor")
I always wanted to own a big, comfy Grand Cherokee - friends and family had owned them, and I loved the look and performance. I finally picked up a beautiful 2014 certified pre-owned model, the pros and (significant) cons of which are detailed below. Short version: it's a great ride, but Jeep has some serious QC issues that have hopefully been addressed in the intervening years since my truck rolled off the assembly line.
Story
I live in an area that is highly prone to flooding during hurricane season, and having a rig like this sitting in the garage sure has made life a lot easier in the aftermath of a few particularly nasty recent weather events.
Pros
The interior of this thing is absolutely beautifully fitted out - ergonomic leather covered seats, all the modern bells and whistles (including rear-view dash cam, Wi-Fi, GPS, satellite radio, road service, USB ports, heated/air-conditioned seats) and many more convenient features. It's powerful and nimble - for such a hefty ride, it is a real jackrabbit off the line. It's surprisingly fuel-efficient - rated at 22 mpg city/30 highway, but mine routinely outperforms the given highway spec by two or three mpg. Cons
Early on, I experienced persistent electrical problems, from blown fuses, to faulty sensors, to hinky A/C and indicator lights. Multiple trips to the dealership failed to resolve these issues for any length of time and culminated in an overload condition that sparked an engine fire that, had it not been contained quickly, could have been a disaster, and nevertheless required an almost complete rewiring job at a cost of thousands (to the dealer, not me).
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee -
I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee 3 years ago from a local dealership where I live. I always wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but had never heard too much about the SUV. Regretfully, when I bought the vehicle I did not look up any kind of reviews or ask for opinions on the Jeep. Now that I have the suv I would not recommend it to anyone! Since I bought the car there have been 2 recalls on the safety of the vehicle. It is terrible on gas which really affects me with as much as I have to drive for my line of work. The paint and trim of the car is chipping and fading so quickly from the sun and the heat and I see this on every older Jeep like mine. I have had the car in the shop about a dozen times for anything from the radiator to the brakes going out after I recently had them replaced. The c... (more)
