2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee - My first car (and last)
My first car was my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It had nearly 200k miles on it when I first got it, and it had nearly 300k miles on it when it finally crooked on me. That car was a trooper though, from the moment I first got it, with a busted out radiator to when it finally died on me, I loved that car.
Story
Putting it into four-wheel drive for the first time and driving it off road. That was my favorite moment but another memorable one was the first time my car got a flat tire. I was driving to get my inspection done, literally pulled into the shop and hit the curb, got a flat. Literally at a mechanic. It was the most convenient inconvenience of all time. Pros
Durability. Long lasting. Low maintenance.
Cons
It eventually died out on me. Doesn't drive itself. Not great on gas.
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Reliable first car.
I got my jeep in high school as my first car. Now that I'm a poor grad student living halfway across the country it's still holds up beautifully. While I would like nice interiors, a new paint job, or a nicer stereo, I would trade all those things for a car that runs as beautifully as mine.
Story
Because I had the most space, through college I was always the driver. Once I drove back five friends from the airport, piling all of our stuff on top. We played great music the whole three ours, stopped for junk food, and just had a great time.
Pros
Reliable: never once had engine trouble in 6 years of ownership. Space: lots of space without being too big. Four wheel: while I don't drive through snow and ice, I do drive through uneven roads and mud.
Cons
Exterior is not strong. Got bumped by a runaway shopping cart and it put a massive dent in the bumper. Poor safety ratings. Awful gas mileage. Electrical problems. Constant recalls. Poor A/C.
