This vehicle is, without a doubt, my favorite of all the vehicles I've owned. More than anything, I love how well it handles in inclement weather (namely snow, as I'm in a very cold climate most of the year). I originally purchased the Commander in 2014 direct from owner, so it was already six years old, and I anticipated needing to perform some repairs relatively soon after buying. To my surprise, the vehicle was a champ that has needed nothing except new tires in the five years I've owned it! The inside is so spacious that I've been able to pack it full of people and two dogs without issue, and I've loved being able to put down the third-row seating and open the back hatch to make a large lounging area for sunny days at the park. The MPG is hardly impressive, with my Commander clocki... (more)
Story
My husband and I drove the Commander across the country to Orlando, FL, on an impromptu vacation. Thanks to the space in the car, we were able to stretch out while the other drove, which was a huge plus. On the way back, we were met with a massive regional storm. I kid you not, this Commander was like a Marine charging through the rain and hail, which turned into snow within the hour. I was ne... (more)
Pros
More than anything, the off-road capabilities and handling of the Commander are the best qualities. The space and third-row seating are less important to me, but they are things I've come to love so much that I will require them in my next car.
Cons
I wish there was a keyhole on the passenger-side door handle. While it's unrealistic given the vehicle's size, I still wish the gas mileage was better (14/17 burns through the wallet pretty quickly when this is the primary vehicle).

What I like about the Jeep Commander is that it is powerful and has unlimited ability to take you anywhere. With a 5.7L Hemi engine, the Jeep has enough power to pull a boat or trailer in town, on the highway, or up mountain passes without knowing you are pulling thousands of pounds. With the Jeep's 4 x 4 capabilities, you can travel in all conditions with no concern for getting stuck. The Jeep has been taken in blizzard conditions, up mountain back-roads, country wide road-trips, and used as a commuter to work, never failing to meet the need. A dislike I have with the vehicle is the amount of gas is goes through. During my weekly commute via highway miles, I typically average 15 miles per gallon and must fill up quite often.
Story
Taking this Jeep to a big college football game where all the hotels were booked. We decided to put the seats down and sleep in the back of the vehicle on an air mattress in the middle of an RV lot.
Pros
The Jeep Commander is large, with seating for a driver and up to six passengers when the third row of seats are utilized. Even with six passengers, the Jeep feels spacious and not too crowded, with the ability to still bring items along on a trip. Additionally, the Jeep Commander Limited comes fully loaded, including a GPS, satellite radio, DVD player, music hard drive, and leather. Even on long road trips, the diver and passengers remain entertained and comfortable with these many features included.
Cons
The biggest con for the Jeep Commander is that the ride is rigid and loud when on the highway going high speeds. This makes the ride less comfortable for longer road trips due to the bounciness of the ride, and conversations are difficult to have due to the noise at high speeds. Another con is that, with a large gas tank and low MPG, the cost to fill up the gas tank is rather high and occurs more often than other SUVs. The cost to fill up the tank sometimes approaches $70, depending on gas prices, and with a longer commute, you may spend that twice a week.
