1993 Jeep Cherokee - Would love one when they were new.
I had a grey 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I loved the way it looked, old jeeps have something to them that I can't resist. It had some rust and dents, but it was a 23 year old car, so it gave it some charm. It had just over 180,000 miles when I got it and didn't make it much past 190,000. It had some major engine issues with the timing and eventually the head gasket. Also with the age the track bar started to wear down. Despite those problems, before it broke down it handled like a charm. It turned so smoothly and the four wheel drive was a beast when off-roading or in the snow.
Story
I got lost once and drove it to the top of a mountain looking for my campsite. I felt so cool flying past people on those dirt roads because my car could handle it so much better. I got the coolest picture of the sunset on the peak with my jeep. I eventually found the campsite after dark, but it was so worth getting lost.
Pros
I loved the look of this car, and there was so much more to do to it. Jeeps are forever customizable and I love that about them. It had a big trunk area which was nice, which could be made even bigger if the back row of seats were down.
Cons
My main problem with it was that it was old and not maintained very well. That really isn't much of a problem with all jeeps, just the one I bought. I also had problems with some of the handles and knobs. The handle on the trunk was cheap plastic and broke easily and so was the know holding on the spare tire in the trunk.
2016 Jeep Cherokee - Great entry-level Jeep
The 2016 Jeep Cherokee is a solid car! Surprisingly comfortable to drive. It feels like you're in a much smaller, sportier sedan. Ample cargo space in the trunk and fully-folding back seats allowed us to move an entire studio apartment in one trip! The Jeep performs great, easily getting the high end of the estimated mileage. Though I've not towed anything yet, it feels like there's definitely sufficient torque to accomplish this. The interior trim is sleek and comfortable as well.
Story
This car was great for a Vegas road trip! About 400 miles each way, the car just needs a bit of gas right around the time a break would be desired anyways. Plenty of room for luggage and snacks, and you still look stylish when you arrive.
Pros
Very spacious for a smaller SUV. Ample storage and seating at the same time. Car handles very nicely and is fun to drive in all conditions. Selectable transmission types produce noticeable differences in car handling for different conditions.
Cons
Some parts of the interior are cheap—seats are easily cut and torn by sharper/heavier cargo, various parts of the trim and seals are starting to peel, the radio screen/dials are inefficient and waste space and audio quality is mediocre. Terrible acceleration.
