2015 Jeep Cherokee - So Far So Good
I've had my Cherokee for 4 months now and I love it so far.
The Trail hawk version is very off-road capable and the stock Firestone tires get great grip. The base 4 cylinder engine paired with the 9 speed transmission is adequate but sometimes I wish I had gone with the 6 cylinder. I haven't had any problems with the transmission and I think it does a great job with smooth shifts and not a whole lot of hunting around for the correct gear. I have been getting 30 mpg highway and 20 mpg city with my normal driving habits.
Story
I haven't had the vehicle long but I have had a great time taking it to different hiking and mountain biking locations.
Pros
The interior is borderline luxurious with high quality soft touch materials everywhere. The ride is quiet and it does a good job of sucking up road vibrations. The leather/cloth bucket seats are very soft and comfortable. The Uconnect features are great - the large touch screen is fast and easy to use. The interior space is less than most of the competitors but I haven't had any problems fitting my bicycles in the back.
Cons
- Gas mileage could be better
- Interior space less than competitors
- You have to move the front seats forward to lay down the back seats
- 4 cylinder engine is adequate but not exciting
- Some features are not standard that are on other vehicles (heated
1996 Jeep Cherokee - Fun SUV.
It was rugged and durable, handled well off-road, did well in snow and bad weather. I drove it up to Alaska from the east coast and then down to California and had no serious problems and never got stranded. The heat worked great. There wasn't a lot of room to move to carry people or things, but it had great power, and the four-wheel drive came in handy many times.
Story
When I was driving through the Yukon territory (my first time in Canada), I drove around a steep curve just before sundown and saw three moose crossing the road. It was too late to stop, but I stood on the brakes and actually steered between two moose, which had stopped in the middle of the road. Then I pulled over to breathe for a while.
Pros
It could take a lot of abuse without breaking down. I ran it for 24 hours at a time more than once without an issue. It did well off-road and in inclement weather. The rear seat folded down easily to give extra space. It had good power and made it across the country and up to Alaska and back without a problem.
Cons
It was relatively small and didn't have room for carrying much or many people. I didn't like the color much, and it wasn't all that comfortable. The rear windshield wiper never worked right.
