What a wonderful vehicle. Everyone one that I know that has had one has gotten at least 300k miles before needing major repairs and mine is well on it's way. Currently sitting at 188000 miles I have driven this jeep across the country 6 times. No major breakdowns and no work done other than new tires. The interior is comfortable for long trips, for a 4wd vehicle the gas mileage is excellent. As an added bonus, with the backseat folded down there is plenty of room to sleep, saving over $100 a night on hotels.
Story
I love exploring little traveled areas and my Jeep provides me the capability to travel even the roughest forestry roads without having to worry about damage.
Pros
The biggest positive things about this vehicle are the low maintenance costs, the spacious interior, the long life of the engine, and the gas mileage. I also love that this vehicle is still made of steel. I have been hit 4 times in minor accidents. All four times the other car crumpled causing extensive damage while my vehicle received minor scratches.
Cons
I have gone through more tires than what would probably be considered 'normal' and there are small issues with the car such as rust, wires dry rotting, etc.

My 1999 Cherokee has 150K miles on it and has required nothing but routine maintenance. It never broke down, never gave me any trouble. Too bad Jeep really dropped the ball soon after this model.
Story
Going down a wet 2 lane street I was caught off guard by a red light and stepped on the break a little too sharply. Instead of stopping, the car went forward with momentum and then did a perfect 180 into the opposite lane. It didn't flip! Luckily there were no other cars around.
Pros
The best thing about this car is how durable the engine is. These are known to go well over 300K. I have 150K on mine, and it is still running perfectly.
Cons
Fuel economy is a big downside to this car. Especially with the 4.0L V6, which is what I have. If you're looking for a small SUV or truck with good gas mileage - this isn't it.
