1996 Jeep Cherokee - Reliable, Tough and Awesome
I like that it can be worked on very easily. I can get all the parts out of a scrap yard and keep it working like new. It has great 4x4 capabilities and has a strong v6 engine. I wish that it was newer and had all the same fancy bells and whistles as the other cars, but at the same time that is what gives it the ease of rebuilding. I feel that I would want to keep this make and model around for a very long time so that I can continue to have a reliable and easy car for the winter months. Here in UT it gets extremely snowy and it has absolutely no problems when it comes down hard. I feel that this would be a good car if I could only own one.
Story
I was in Jackson Hole WY, and it was a hell of a night. The snow was falling faster than i could see in front of me. I decided to take a short cut and ended up in an area that did not have paved roads. So i through it in 4x4 low and just ran through the snow and dirt listening to my tunes and had a very awesome experience.
Pros
I enjoy the 4x4 in it. It is a manual gear shift from 2 wheel drive to 4 low or 4 high. This makes it so that the computer doesn't malfunction and not shift into 4x4 drive. I also like the box look of it. It has a look that can transcend time and always looks like a beast. As already stated, I enjoy how easy it is to repair. It doesn't have many computer needs so most of the car is just mechanical instead of digital. The ability to find parts is nice and the low maintenance on it keeps it going day in and day out. Overall it is a very functional vehicle and continues to impress me everyday.
Cons
I guess the only thing that I can see as a negative is that the older it gets the more problems that arise. And as time goes on the ability to find the parts will diminish and make it hard to continue to keep it in tip top shape.
1996 Jeep Cherokee -
This Jeep was the best thing that ever happened to me when I was younger. It was a safe, reliable vehicle that I could also take mudding and everyone envied me. It really was one of the best parts of growing up. It was white with grey interior and it was so dependable and never broke down anywhere. I love Jeeps because they remind me of the military and Jurassic Park.
Story
Me and Kevin took it to Fossil Creek, Arizona. We went down the highway and then down the hill and then down the dirt road for 15 miles and it was really bouncy and rocky. But then we got there and it was all worth it. When we came back the check engine light came on and it said it was overheating but we just kept going and it was fine. This car is truly indestructible!
Pros
It has run without oil or coolant with no damage. It is actually bullet proof (I heard this rumor). It is really stylish and sleek. The back is roomy. The tires are really cool looking, too and big.
Cons
Gas mileage is bad. It is a rough ride for sure. Not much resale value. It will not pass any emissions testing. The headroom is really low.
