Hyundai XG350 Owner Ratings & Reviews

2002 Hyundai XG350 - 2002 Hyundai XG350L at 117,000 miles.
The styling of this car is great. For the price, I have to look twice when a Lincoln goes by, as the styling looks similar. And the cruise control works perfectly, when the transmission is placed in automatic mode. Overall, the interior and exterior have held up well over the years, always sitting outside. A new car should not be a problem. Compared to another car I drive, the XG350L feels cheap. What really got my interest in purchasing this car was the discount offered on this particular car with a $30,000 + price tag, was a ten thousand dollar discount.
Story
The real fun of this car was the purchase. I told my wife to pick a car of her choice, of a low-line import, under $13,000 dollars. After taking a test drive in a Hyundai Elantra, the smart salesman asks us to consider looking at an XG350L, After a test drive, my wife decided this would be her new car.
Pros
I found it amazing that the brakes were just changed at 116,000 miles for the first time. I also enjoy the power of the six-cylinder engine. With the lite weight of the car, the acceleration will still spin the front wheels. And the trunk space is great. I can carry a folding handle push lawn mower with the trunk closed. Also love the seat heaters on a cool winter night.
Cons
From the dealer lot, the radio will turn on or off at any time and most always when crossing railroad tracks. At 60,000 miles, the standard, recommended service required the Hyundai to be in the shop, The dealer had the car in the service department for four weeks. The dealer provided a rental car. A short time later, the dealer when out of business. At 94,000 miles, something went wrong with the putting gas in the car. I was told it would cost $1,000 dollars to replace a filter in the fuel intake system. Fuel will take only 0.38 gallons, then starts coming out. So at this point, I was... (more)
2002 Hyundai XG350 - Sounds like one happy owner of a very reliable vehicle. I would buy one.
This vehicle was my wife's choice. I told her we were going to purchase a small economy car for her frequent visits to family, about 200 miles away. As we had only been married a short time, I was not so quickly learning her ways. She had to have black, and of course, the salesman showed us the most expensive car on the lot. Being September, the new models were on their way, and the car only had 6 miles on it, with a 10K discount. Then the test drive. The car looked a bit like a Lincoln, and the acceleration was like being in a race car. I really had to hold back on start up so as not to spin the front wheels.
Story
The one thing that still impresses my is the acceleration of this car. It's quicker than most cars on the road.
Pros
Being the top of the line, this vehicle had all the bells and whistles. The only car I could compare it to was my 28K Japanese import. This car had all the features but had a feeling as though it was extremely light, which helped with the performance. The seating was great, leather, electric adjustments, and even heated. The stereo was exceptional, with speakers everywhere.
Cons
And then, little annoying problems started up. Every time the car would hit a good bump, like railroad tracks, the radio would turn on or off. This was startling at times, as you can imagine. Then, around 20K miles, the car went into the shop for routine maintenance. We didn't get the car back until day 31. The shop had taken something in the engine apart that required a team from Korea to put it back together. The filter in the fill line for gasoline malfunctioned at about 60K and now it takes at least 30 minutes to fill the 18+ gallon tank -- a $1k fix. At 100k miles, the automatic tran... (more)
2002 Hyundai XG350 - Evaluating the 2002 Hyundai XG350L.
This car was purchased brand new from a dealer in West Palm Beach, Florida. The climate in Florida is warm and humid. Due to the lack of ice and snow on the roads, salt corrosion was not an issue as it was in cold Northern states. With the intense sunlight, the dashboard has warped pretty badly on the passenger side. With 116,000 miles on the odometer, this car has sat outdoors exposed to the environment for over 15 years Pro's are the engine required little maintenance, though something as routine as changing the spark plugs, would cost over $300.00.
Story
My Hyundai was great fun to drive in the snow. On a short trip to New England, I found a large empty parking lot. I turned on the traction control and was able to maneuver very well on snow and ice.
Pros
Pro's would include drivability, and cheap comfort. The window sticker on this car was over $30,000. though it was purchased for just over $22,000. the tires and front end alignment have been good for approximately 35,000 miles. the brakes lasted over 100,000 miles.
Cons
Cons would be the factory radio will turn on and off with a mind of it's own. The headliner is falling off the ceiling in the back of the car. Because of a filter in the fuel line if the tank needs to be filled with gasoline, it takes about 45 minutes to pump 18 gallons into the tank. A serious new con is that the automatic transmission shifts into a higher gear too soon. I'm told this will cost over $2000 to repair 4 "air sensor. Also, the air conditioning is broke The fan turns with no cool air. Also, the electric sunroof will open, but will not close.
