I love my Hyundai Sonata. I love the way it looks. It definitely presents itself as a more expensive vehicle. I like the way it drives. I don't need a ton of off the line speed, as I just needed a vehicle to commute to work and back. People compliment me all the time. The value versus cost is wonderful for the car. It seats 5 comfortable so we can pile in and go in comfort.
Story
I would drive to the beach often. I loved the ride from Orlando to Daytona - about 35 minutes. I always felt good driving it down the road and listening to music as I went.
Pros
I like the gas mileage of the vehicle. I tend to get 22 - 24 miles per gallon in the city. On the highway I get 33 - 34 miles per gallon. That has really been great with the price o gas being so high. The back seat area has great foot space. When I looked at other cars, there was little foot space. I like people to get in and out of the back seat without striking their feet. I like the styling of the car inside and out. The car handles well in all conditions and I feel secure driving it. Cons
I had to have the car in to fix things under the warranty a few times. I noticed a knocking - I think it was the cv joint at around 60k miles. The starter also needed to be replaced before 50k miles. The warranty was good until 60k miles since I bought the car 2nd hand. The original owner gets 10YR/100K warranty, but used car buyers only get 5yr/60k warranties, which is a turn off. I had a few little things break, like the driver's window control button. The steering wheel also peels if you wear rings. I wish it had a better sound system. Like most people I did my research before buying the car and after reading a lot of reviews I came to the conclusion that most of the reviewers must have been "bought off". Well, after owning the car for over four years I must admit that I too have been bought off. I've been bought off by the quality, reliability and value of the car. There isn't another car in it's class that has anywhere near the list of features of this car, yet the Sonata cost several thousand less. I've driven it for just over 60,000 miles in the span of four and a half years and I've changed the oil, put on a new set of tires and replaced the battery. That is it! Hyundai has raised the bar for reliability.
Story
I've been asked numerous times how much I paid for the car and watched the disbelief on their faces when I told them under $20 K. Maybe it's that people in Kentucky aren't very familiar with Hyundai but funny none the less.
Pros
I love the appearance of the car, it has that euro look when you first see it. The fuel mileage for a car it's size is outstanding. I get close to 30 mpg in overall driving. The car is very comfortable and quiet. The performance has been much better than I had hoped for with it having a mid size 4 cylinder engine. Overall, the value of the car is very hard to beat!
Cons
The alignment is slightly off. I've had it checked and supposedly it can't be fixed. It isn't off by much but enough that it irritates. Hyundai says it is within "specs" and will not fix it. I had to buy a new battery a little sooner than I would have thought.
