2004 Hyundai Sonata Owner Ratings & Reviews

2004 Hyundai Sonata - Great little car.
We have had the Hyundai Sonata for thirteen years, and we have put over 150,000 miles of city and highway on it. It has remained a dependable and solid car through the years with almost no major issues. It has been so reliable that we are passing it on to our son and feel that it is a good vehicle for him to start driving around in. The gas mileage has been good, given that it is a six-cylinder. The six-cylinder affords great pick-up for interstate driving, and if you are feeling frisky, you can shift into the manual drive option. The trunk is so large that we have no problem fitting all of our groceries and department store items in it. The seats are roomy, and the center console storage is quite spacious. It's quite comfortable and drives very well. We are amazed that the body has he... (more)
Story
We had a lot of fun driving our kids around when they were younger in their car seats. Now, we are teaching the same kids to drive in this car. It's always been a great vehicle to drive to the beach with the sunroof open and enjoying all the fresh beach air. Not to mention, being able to store all the chairs, umbrellas, coolers and towels for the beach in the huge trunk.
Pros
It has been extremely reliable even after many miles. It has almost no garage work on it. I feel comfortable with the safety rating of the car. The gas mileage is about average, not too bad. The particular model I got had all the features offered for that year, and there are a lot. The original paint job has held up over many miles and years in the hot Florida sun. It has very nice pickup speed thanks to the six-cylinder engine. It drives and corners well. It has a very large and deep trunk that accommodates larger items. It has comfortable lumbar seats for those of us with bad backs.
Cons
The power sunroof was replaced under recall, and about a year later, it stopped working. Eventually, the air conditioner had to be replaced. The cruise control never worked quite right. The leather interior has started cracking. The driver's side power window is no longer working. A number of the knobs and parts made of plastic have cracked from the Florida heat.
2004 Hyundai Sonata - A Great Car that Stands the Test of Time
I've had my Hyundai Sonata for almost 8 years now, and it's still running strong. The leather interior is truly luxurious for the size and model of the car. It doesn't seem to heat up too much on hot days, which is great, given the dark paint color. One of the best features is the moon roof, which adds a nice touch given the hot environment I live in. During the summer, it's great to drive around with all the windows and moon roof down and really take advantage of the breeze! The exterior of the car is fantastic; it truly looks like a luxury vehicle, even though it's a standard sedan. Others have compared it to the look of a Jaguar given the way the lights are positioned in the front. One of the best things about this car is its durability. There have been minor issues as with any vehi... (more)
Story
Seems that every time we take the vehicle on a trip, the check engine light comes on. It's kind of ironic, as it's never anything big - just low fluids or something - but it's always funny whenever we go on a long trip we notice that. It's gotten to be a bit of a joke in the California area for us, but we have never had major problems as a result.
Pros
One of my favorite features is the moon roof. Another great feature is the luxury look and feel, both inside (leather seating) and outside (with a look like a luxury car).
Cons
The only negative thing is the standard things that occur with any aging car as you start having to care for it more frequently. Nothing out of the ordinary, though!
