2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring - Perfect for everything from community to driving the mountains.
This is an excellent vehicle for almost any need. I spend every day driving the interstate, and it is perfect for getting me to and from work every day. It has been very reliable and stable in its performance. I live in an urban, very flat area; however multiple times a year, I drive in the mountains. It is great for traveling. The size is great. It has enough room for storing luggage but isn't so big that the gas millage is affected. I am only five foot 2, but I am able to reach the snowboard racks we put on it every year which is a big plus! While we do not have kids, if I did, I would very safe having them in this car. It feels very secure and has all the hookups for car seats with extra room for any groceries or anything else you would be moving. It has most of the hookups I would ... (more)

I am able to play everything from mp4 CDs to music on my phone using the stereo. The worst part of the car is that when you go to get parts for it, most people do not understand that the Touring is different than the normal Elantra. It is, at times, hard to find the specific part, and I have had many people try to sell me the wrong part. Specifically the battery is not the same; and if you get the one not for the Touring, it will not fit well. Another thing I wish it had was four-wheel drive, although I've never had any issue handling it in the snow and mountains. All in all, I have recommended this car to friends and family alike and have known one other person to purchase it since I did.
We were getting ready to go camping, and I had went to my dad's house to get wood for the fire. We only needed about a dozen small logs, but my dad just kept loading up the back. He kept saying I had the room and what if I ended up needing more wood than I thought. This is just like my dad; and while I was very appreciative of the fire wood, I think it's the only time I wished the car was slig... (more)

The size is perfect for everything from the daily commute to cross-country traveling. Mechanically, it has been very reliable.

Most people (even mechanics) do not understand that there is a difference between the normal Elantra and the Touring. They will try to sell you incorrect parts. No four-wheel drive, although I've never had any major issues.

2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring - A good value
The car has been fairly reliable over the six years that I have owned it. I have driven it more than 90,000 miles and except for a major issue early on, I have not had any trouble with it. I did have to replace the transmission at around 30,000 miles, but it was covered under warranty and I have not experienced any transmission related issues since.

I love to drive through the mountains of Pennsylvania in the fall with the windows down and the sunroof open.

The car has some nice touches - sunroof, heating seats, fairly good gas mileage. It also has a lot of storage in the back and I have taken it on many road trips. It still looks good after 6 years - no fading of the paint, etc. The car is mostly a practical one, but I think it has a slightly sporty look to it which is hard to accomplish with a wagon. The backseat is comfortable for passengers, and my in-laws, who are in their 70's, have no issues getting in and out of the vehicle.

The first transmission failed early in the life of the vehicle. And the bulbs burn out quickly, and are expensive and difficult to replace. I've never had a vehicle go through so many bulbs before in my life. For the front lights, you have to take the battery out to gain access and many knuckles have been destroyed in the process.

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring - Excellent no-frills vehicle
This vehicle was purchased new in 2009 and has performed well in all areas except "excitement." If you are looking for excellent, no-frills transportation, this would be an excellent choice. If you are looking for excitement and driving exhilaration, this car would not satisfy you. The driving position is quite comfortable, and the seats are long enough for a taller person to avoid thigh fatigue. There is also plenty of headroom. Controls are easy to see and use. The sound system is decent along with the inclusion of satellite radio although the iPod feature doesn't recognize anything except my older iPod. The car itself allows a lot of road noise. The warranty is outstanding and actually came in handy when a powertrain issue surfaced at 95,000 miles. The engine is adequate, but groans... (more)

The warranty is outstanding and actually came in handy when a powertrain issue surfaced at 95,000 miles. The engine is adequate, but groans on steep hills. The styling is very vanilla and not exciting, but that is not why you are buying this car. The car is roomy enough for four people and can hold five adults in a pinch. Because it is a hatchback, there is plenty of room to haul cargo. A folding bike fit in the hatch area without a problem.
Used the vehicle to haul several kids back and forth every year to the local amusement park for birthday parties.

Reliable! Comfortable. Controls are easy to use. Plenty of room and cargo space. Affordable. Decent music system. Excellent warranty.

Not an exciting ride. Lots of road noise. Boring styling. Fuel economy could be a bit better.
