1994 Hyundai Excel - Glad to Say Goodbye
The Hyundai Excel that I had was an old one. It was a 94, and while I was one of the coolest kids on the block for having my own car, it was honestly pretty awful. The pros of the car had to do with the gas mileage, as it was really good - as well as the braking and acceleration. I found those both to be sensitive but not over sensitive. We typically used this car to go to concerts that were far away because of the gas mileage. Sadly, we always had to pray that the car would not break down on the side of the road. It was in and out of the shop every week, and cost me a lot of money in repairs. I wish I had used that money to spend on a down payment for a better car. I would not recommend this car to anyone that has small children, as it was very unreliable for me. The only time I would... (more)
Story
No.
Pros
My Hyundai Excel was meant to be my first car, and really I had it when I was rather young. It was an older car, and didn't have many pluses to it. It was expensive to keep putting in and out of the shop, and it was very uncomfortable. There was some good about the car, though. I got incredibly good gas mileage, and found it was a good little "beater" car. We usually used my car to attend concerts that were far away, specifically just because of the decent gas mileage I got on it. It could have also been the fact nobody else my age really had a car then. The tires seemed to last pretty lon... (more)
Cons
When I first received my Hyundai Excel GL, I was very excited. This car was basically meant to be my first car, and I planned on driving it anywhere I could. Unfortunately, it did not take long for my excitement to fade and turn into sadness. To be honest, the thing was a piece of junk. I found it to be very uncomfortable, as did most of my friends. There was never enough storage room in the trunk or cabin of the car. It seemed like I was constantly replacing parts and putting it in and out of the shop. Every week, I had to invest at least $100 on my car in the shop. That's enough for a pa... (more)
2001 Hyundai XG300 - Excellent Low Cost Luxury Vehicle
This is an older vehicle without a lot of the components that more modern cars have. However, it is very nice for its time. The interior is high quality leather, very luxurious looking and comfortable, and it has held up very well without showing any wear and tear. The seat and window controls are all electronic. It includes a CD player/radio with no auxiliary input. Though I was disappointed in the lack of auxiliary input, the CD player/radio works excellently and has never given me any problems. The sound quality through the car's speakers is not the best, though, and I have had to replace the passenger side speaker. The heating/AC system works perfectly in this car, and it even has a backseat heating/cooling vent. All seats in the vehicle are very roomy, with plenty of space for a f... (more)
Story
My husband came to pick me up from work one day during a blizzard. The snow in the parking lot of my workplace was already well over nine inches of fresh powder, but he made it over 30 miles through the blizzard to get to me. When I made it to the car and we set out to drive home, the snow had picked up much more and I was worried that we would be unable to make it out or have to shovel a path... (more)

2001 Hyundai XG300 -
I bought my 2001 Hyundai XG300 as a used car with only 100,000 miles on it. As a college student looking to buy her first car, this car seemed like a great fit. The car was very big and heavy, which always made me feel safe and secure. Additionally, it was very roomy. It was always able to accommodate groceries, textbooks, and the three other students I routinely carpooled with. However, I only had the car for sixth months before it became unsafe and unusable. The interior parts, such as the sun visors, upholstery, glove box, paneling, and center console were constantly falling apart. The windshield wipers and their motors stopped functioning. Many mechanical problems developed and ultimately culminated in the power steering dying. All of these issues made the car unusable and proved t... (more)
Story
My favorite memories with this car involve driving around locally with my friends. I was the first in my group of friends to get a car, so we were able to do a lot more than walking around the neighborhood.
Pros
My favorite qualities about this car were physical. I liked the size of the car, and that I always felt safe in it. It was very spacious and was able to hold whatever I needed.
Cons
The top cons about this car were all mechanical and electrical. Most of the electrical components barely functioned. The doors were unable to be locked by the buttons inside the car or the key. The radio would spontaneously turn on at random intervals while driving. The alarm would frequently go off if one of the doors were successfully locked. Additionally, the alarm would occasionally go off while I was driving. This required me to pull over, turn the car completely off, and then restart it. The windshield wipers barely functioned, even after replacing the actual arms twice.
