2012 Honda Odyssey - Decent minivan and costs a lot.
This vehicle is way overpriced vs. the Kia Sedona. I paid $27k for this at 20k miles and three years old vs. $16k at 20k miles and one year old for a Sedona. Outside of some peeling paint, the Sedona has given me less trouble all around than this Honda. Honda repairs cost a lot, and it seems to need more than the Kia.
Story
My daughter likes to bring her stuffed animals and blankets into the back seat whenever we go somewhere in the car.
Pros
I like its acceleration, space (8 seats), and solid feel. No rattles, good radio, good climate controls. Over 100k miles so far
Cons
This Honda had a factory recall on piston rings. The timing belt requires replacement at 90k miles as well. The breakaway mirrors are too tight. They both got clipped backing out of the garage.
2013 Honda Odyssey - Solid vehicle with plenty of room for kids, groceries, and bags of wood chips.
I love the Odyssey, and we've taken it on many vacations. Overall, great for families and good for many thousands of miles. It feels stable on the road in all weather conditions and is the car of choice for everybody's comfort. It's a sound vehicle, although the stock tires seem to easily puncture.
Story
Once, after a trip to Lake Michigan, we called the Odyssey the Sandmobile because there was so much sand in the seats, on the floors--everywhere. We stalled the gas station vacuum when cleaning it.
Pros
Solid vehicle. It is well built and doesn't make you feel like you're driving a tin can. You can switch out the seating in the middle row and put the seats down for added floor space. You can load the back with two or three small bikes or lots of groceries. There's so much space that groceries roll around. A DVD player made this great for long trips to keep the kids entertained. When our younger kids were in boosters, we always felt safe with them strapped in in back.
Cons
The tires often lose pressure or become easily punctured. The maintenance costs are higher than American cars. The expense of this car means many months of high car payments until the loan is paid off. More standard features that don't come with added cost would be nice, GPS, for example.
