This was my first car and it has been very helpful. It is a four seater and has rear hinged back doors, which are pretty neat. It will always get you where you're going. Even though it is only front-wheel drive, it works well in the snow and in the mud. Gas mileage is not terrible, around 20 mpg. It is a little rough riding too. It has plenty of space as I am an avid road tripper, room wasn't any issue when packing. The back seats fold up against the walls. A shorter mattress could probably fit in it if you needed to sleep in your car.
Story
I took it too Colorado in the winter time. It did not get stuck and made it through the mountains fine!
Pros
There is lots of space to haul equipment. It is great for me when I move around from year to year at college. The rear hinged back doors are also pretty unique. Unexpectedly, you can take off pretty fast. Lastly, it is a box! Who doesn't want to drive around in a toaster?
Cons
The roughness when driving is probably the worst part in driving. Also, the back seats are raised higher than the front by quite a bit. Therefore people riding in the back may feel the bumps pretty well.

2008 Honda Element - It is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

This is a great vehicle. It rides well and is great for trips. Because you sit a bit higher off the ground, you have a better view of the road. It looks like a small vehicle, but when you get in, it feels quite roomy with sufficient roof height to accommodate a man of at least 6' 4" (who was surprised). It has performed well over the years. It has about 50,000 miles on it and still drives as it did when new.
Story
We bought the car in Indiana and its first trip was to Alabama to the Talladega NASCAR race. During the trip, we played a game to see how many Elements we could spot. As soon as we got south of Nashville, we were the only Element! And when we got to the track, we noticed everyone staring at us. Apparently at that time, there were not too many Elements in the South!
Pros
The most positive thing about the car is that it is quite roomy and because the back seats can be folded up or even taken out, the vehicle can be used for light hauling. I also love the hard rubberized floor because it is easy to clean and doesn't show dirt. You can plug in your iPhone and listen to its music rather than the radio, which I love to do on road trips.
Cons
It has a blind spot on the passenger side which can make it difficult to see when someone is passing you on the right. Also, you need to be careful not to follow too closely behind large semi trucks. The wind coming off the truck can hit the roof of the car and makes the car shimmy a bit. As long as you maintain the appropriate distance from the semi, this does not occur.
