Honda Element Owner Ratings & Reviews

2008 Honda Element - Wish I Could Buy Elements For Live
This is the second Honda vehicle I have ever owned and I could not ask for a more reliable and fun-to-drive car. I'd been wanting an Element for years, and finally buying one more than lived up to my expectations. The best experience I had was in relation to its 4-wheel drive. I've never driven a car that handles so well in bad weather.
Story
When caught in a horrible and sudden freak blizzard, I was able to safely get home when cars around me kept stopping and getting stranded. It handles beautifully in all weather, and as long as I'm careful on turns, I feel incredibly safe in it.
Pros
I love the ability to configure the car's interior in many ways. The way the seats fold to the side mean I can haul thousands of books around easily on what is essentially a flatbed. The car holds so much in any configuration. The car has held up to a lot of use and driving and is still as hearty and fun as the day I bought it. The moon roof is a joy, as is the ability to lay the seats flat and camp out in the car; I look forward to driving the entire Blue Ridge Parkway in it next year or the year after! I also like its flooring and how easy it is to clean.
Cons
I wish I'd held out for a less built-out model than the LX so I would have had more options to customize it. Also, there is a blind spot that took some getting used to. It only seats 4 people, so sometimes there are limitations when I need to drive family, friends, or coworkers. Parts of the car are not magnetic, which is kind of a drag when I have car magnets to apply. These are pretty minor complaints, however. The biggest complaint I have is that they discontinued Elements and won't make them any more! I wish Honda would; they'd have had an Element buyer for life!
2003 Honda Element - The best car I have ever owned
This car has 243 000 miles. It is extremely reliable. There is a timing chain so you never have to worry about changing the timing belt.
Room space is better than any other cars I have seen for the passengers in the back seats. All my passengers always comment on that!
Once the seats are folded, trunk space if enormous.
The rear side doors open outward from the front, which allowed me to load large canvas that would not have gone through the trunk.
The floors are very easy to wash.
Story
I can get the inside of the car muddy and then clean it very easily. But do NOT hose the inside down as some people thought they could. You would damage it.
Pros
Extremely reliable! At 243 000 the only issue I have had where with the locks (read cons). Cheap fix!
Lot of room space.
Engine sized well (166hp / 2.4L) for the weight of the car and it is definitely punchy and fun to drive.
Good on snow even with only 2WD. (The next one I'll buy will be an Element 4WD).
Cons
Locks all had problems: glove box. Door and ignition. It all happened around 200 000 miles. Changed them all once and it is as new.
OK on gas, about 21 mpg city / rural area. Better on Highway.
2003 Honda Element - Honda Element
I own a used Honda Element. It's an older model, but we don't mind. Currently, I've had no problems with it, and it has pretty great gas mileage for what I need it for. It fits my daughters car seat great and has plenty of extra room in the backseat as well. We enjoy having a sunroof and a spacey trunk. The car itself may not be everyone's ideal-looking car, seeing as how it is pretty boxy, but we don't mind it too much. The color we are not too big on since it's a burnt orange and white, but we don't pay much attention to it.
Story
Probably the first day we got the car and drove it off the lot. The car was so different than anything we have driven before, and it was funny learning the car and having to wash it.
Pros
The car runs great, and we haven't had a single problem with it, surprising because it is a 2003. The radio is pretty good along with the speakers. We enjoy the size of the backseat, because we have a car seat that goes in it. The car seat fits great, and we still have room for other passengers. Personally insurance for the car is pretty decent as well, seeing as how our car insurance has gone down since buying it. We also got the car for a steal! Only $1,100, and it was ours to own. Gas lasts pretty good as well.
Cons
We aren't too crazy about the color, but it's superficial so we leave it as is. The car itself isn't the most stylish but once again that's superficial. The A/C isn't the coldest, but we can deal with it by rolling the windows down and letting in natural air. We had to do some cleaning when we first bought it seeing as how the previous owners were not the cleanest. I also don't like speeding in this car as much as others because of the shape, it's not as well shaped as a car would be. Sometimes the car can be a little difficult to fit in certain spots because of the boxy shape. Lastly, I d... (more)
