I needed a reliable, affordable vehicle which could transport various items in between college moves and first time home buying. I had a short commute, so I definitely wanted something eco-friendly that would be good with gas. I financed my silver Honda CR-V. At the time it was 2 years old and I had a job right out of college, so I needed my payment to be reasonable. I had traded in a Toyota Rav-4. Originally I was looking to buy a Ford Escape but the salesman made me a great offer on the Honda CR-V and even told me the value would hold up over a longer period of time. And he was right. 8 years later, the car is still running like new. Its value hasn't decreased significantly, which is important to me since I'll be looking to buy another vehicle soon. Story
The day I adopted my rescue dog, Amelia Bedelia, I let her roam around my vehicle for a while before heading down the road. She sniffed all around and then made her final choice right in the middle of the back seat. She looked right up at me as if she was comfortable and ready for our road trip adventure.
Pros
The price for the high quality that you get, the fuel economy, the comfort of the seats, the speed of the engine, the amount of low maintenance needed to keep the car running, the look that has kept up for over 8 years. It doesn't look incredibly outdated, it's quite timeless, the way the exterior and interior has held up over the years, the quality of service from Honda dealers when there are recalls, etc.
Cons
Recently a light has gone out in my radio panel for one of the preset numbers on the panel, it flickered in and out for a week and then finally went out. I assume it's a small electrical issue or a bulb that has finally burned out. I can't complain much about anything else.

I train and show my dogs in performance sports, and I purchased my Honda CR-V primarily as a dog-friendly vehicle. I can fit four medium dog crates in the car easily, or one larger crate and two medium. I often travel to farms that are on unpaved roads, and the CR-V handles well. Before I bought my Honda, I had regular flat tires trying to drive my sedan on dirt/gravel country roads. My CR-V has yet to have a flat. It gets great gas mileage for the size of the vehicle. It's also small enough to be a good commuter car in the city. The driver's seat is highly adjustable; I'm a petite driver, and appreciate having a seat that I can adjust up and forward. Visibility when you're driving is also excellent -- the car has very few blind spots.
Story
I undertook a huge landscaping project this summer and hauled, in total, 90+ bags of mulch. If you fold the rear seats down, you can comfortably fit 18-20 bags of mulch per load. (Actually, you could probably fit a few more, but the weight becomes a bit much for the car to handle.)
Pros
The interior is roomy and the car handles well on light off-road conditions. It also gets great gas mileage.
Cons
The rear wheel wells intrude into the back cargo space, which unfortunately means you lose a few inches of width. I believe the cargo area has been redesigned in newer models.
