2001 Honda CR-V - Old faithful
I can always depend on my Honda CRV. It always starts right up and goes and goes and goes. It's old now—16 years old. It has over 70,000 miles—not a lot for its age, but I only drive around town. I would call this Honda the most versatile car I have ever driven. I have to carry things--sometimes my lawnmower or sometimes mulch or sometimes just the groceries. I always have plenty of room. The back seats go down so I can use the whole cargo area. I have never had any real problems mechanically with the car except for things that go bad from age. A few of the oil gaskets plus the brakes have needed attention but other than that everything keeps working. I hope I can keep this car for a long time. I love my Honda!
Story
I had to call my then boyfriend for help one day—I was stranded at the mall. I couldn't get my key out of the ignition. When he got there he fixed it—I had neglected to put the car into park, so the key wouldn't come out!
Pros
I love the cargo room! I have to haul things so that's especially important to me. One thing this older one has that the newer models don't have, is the back door—the window opens up and then the back door swings out. Most of the newer models have the whole window/door as one unit and they swing up. Well, since my back window will open while the door is still closed this allows me to carry much longer items than will ordinarily fit into the cargo, such as lumber. I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to go down to Lowes and pick up the boards I need and carry them home myself by j... (more)
Cons
Well, it's hard to find a negative but I will say that after only 13 years the little digital clock wore out. The car didn't come with a CD player—just a radio and a cassette player. The one thing that is a real con though is the tire size. It's an odd size, and it's sometimes hard to find a tire to fit. The hood is hard for me to open also, but that's true of almost every car nowadays.
2001 Honda CR-V - Reliable Car
I have a silver four-door Honda CRV. It seats 5 people with a very spacious trunk. The car holds two car seats semi comfortable with space in between them. I have had this car since 2003 and it's a used model from 2001. After lots of wear and tear over the years it has held up pretty good. It doesn't always drive as good when going up hills, sometimes you really have to gun it and the transmission doesn't sound good, but it hasn't broke down on me so its a keeper for now. For the price and how long that it has lasted I think it has many more good years on it before it is time to trade in. I like that its been reliable for my family from getting to point A to B. I don't like that it's outdated and will someday have to be replaced.
Story
Lots of great memories watching my son grow up through the rear-view mirror.
Pros
It seats two car seats comfortably.
It has a spacious trunk.
The back seats lay down for more space to haul things.
It still drives after many years.
Has decent gas mileage.
Has cruise control.
Comfortable seating.
Cons
Would need more space after two kids and a dog.
The car doesn't do well going up steep hills.
Outdated.
