The 2005 Civic LX is an excellent econobox. It is a great car for commuting, doing errands, and helping a family grow. It is cheap, reliable, and transportation to get to point B. It doesn't have lots of power, but it does get amazing fuel economy. The air conditioning and heating are fast to work, as the cabin cools/heats up quickly.
Story
I went on a road trip with friends to Lake George, NY. It was a four to five hour drive, and it was fun to have company. The car had enough space for everyone and was able to store our luggage in the trunk.
Pros
Fuel economy - this car has exceptional fuel economy in both city and highway driving. It requires regular unleaded gas, which is cheaper than premium. The HVAC system (heat and A/C) are great. The car cools you down fast or heats up quickly. The car has good basic features, such as remote keyless entry, power windows, locks, mirrors, and cruise control. It is great for highway driving. Once you do get on the highway, it is comfortable to drive in for hours, and it has cruise control, so you can just set the speed and relax. It can go about 400-420 miles per tank on the highway, so that's ... (more)
Cons
Power. It is pretty slow and geared for fuel economy. It is slow to get up to highway speed, and you have to time your overtakes on the highway. It also revs a little too high for my taste on the highway. I wish it was about 500 rpm lower at 65-70 mph. The car can also be very loud when you do accelerate at full throttle. The cupholders are in an awkward position and can't accommodate large bottles. The rear seat armrest doesn't fold down in the LX trim. There is only one map pocket in the rear seat. The power window isn't full auto on even the driver's side window (it goes auto down, but ... (more)

The build quality is exceptional. I haven't had any issues with the car in 9 years of ownership, and I've added 70k miles (total of 110k miles). The gas mileage is excellent, and it's cheap to fill up. The performance isn't all that great, but it's enough power for daily use. The transmission still shifts very smoothly. The interior is pretty basic, and the car doesn't have much in terms of features. The stereo is pretty basic, but does the job. It's styling is very utilitarian. It makes for a great highway cruiser, and it does have cruise control.
Story
I took many road trips in this car. One of the most memorable was my friends and I took it down to New York City, about 6 hours away. We parked just to get lunch, which it's difficult to find parking. Just as we were done with our meal, and walking back to the car, there was an officer looking at the car, and trying to see if the should ticket it. I luckily got out of it!
Pros
The gas mileage is excellent, and it's cheap to fill up. It has the basic amenities - air conditioning, power windows/locks/mirrors, cruise control. The stereo is good. The trunk is a good size, and the seats fold down to accommodate even larger items. It's been absolutely reliable - the only maintenance items I have done are oil changes, and tires. It's been inspected yearly, and the mechanic never finds any issues. It wasn't a very expensive car, and Honda's tend to hold their value extremely well. The A/C is excellent - the car cools down very fast on a hot day. I'm also surprised at ho... (more)
Cons
While there is enough power for daily use, it'd be nice to have a little bit more. The seats could be a little more comfortable. While the seats do fold down, there is no trunk pass through, There are only two cup holders, and both are in the front. It could use more interior space in the front - glove box is on the tiny side, and the center console is small as well. There are no bottle holders in the door. Only the driver window is auto down, but not auto up.

I originally found the car I wanted at this dealership through their website, not during an in-person visit. So I called their web sales manager and he was very patient and helpful. He walked me through the process, and we negotiated the deal over the phone - it was simple and relatively painless. In the end, I feel I got a very good deal on the car. I did not use their financing, although I was provided with a quote, I was able to find slightly better financing through my credit union. When I arrived to pick up the car a few days later, I was in and out of the dealership in less than 15 minutes - very impressive for something that often takes much more time. I've been back several times for routine service and maintenance and have been satisfied each time.
