2013 Honda Civic - Satisfied
My wife and I were first-time car buyers looking for a reliable, safe, affordable used car. We had to move from downtown Chicago to a Chicago suburb for work and were not happy about needing to own a car. We viewed a car as a continuous source of errands that would eat into our ever-dwindling free time. My wife would be the primary driver of the car (to/from work and travel between school buildings in her district), and we simply were not interested in a high-maintenance car. Although the car creates its fair share of errands, it's mostly been extremely reliable. Despite two incidents requiring a tow truck, my wife trusts the car and feels safe while driving it. This makes me extremely happy.
Story
My wife was feeling impatient when the road was blocked due to a passing train, so she decided to take a "short cut" through "what looked like a parking lot." We ended up having to get the car towed as an oil tray cover under the car fell down and was dragging on the road. Our mechanic laughed hysterically when showing us the rolled up piece of metal after removal.
Pros
Having never previously owned a car, my wife and I have been very pleased with the somewhat modern features of our bare-bones 2013 car. We like that it has a digital instrument panel, including speedometer, mileage, and oil health. We love the rear-view camera -- it's a game changer for two not-so-confident drivers like us. The Bluetooth experience is adequate, but we're glad we have it. The car is comfortable to both drive and be a passenger for both my 5'4" wife and myself (6'2"). Cons
The windshield wipers, as well as the control knob, are terrible. The speed is always either way too slow or way too fast -- sometimes I feel like I must be missing a setting. The Bluetooth/aux cable experience is not the greatest; it's too annoying to use daily, but we're happy to have it for longer drives. We would really like to be able to save seat configurations to make switching drivers easier.
2006 Honda Civic - A great travel companion
This car has been a godsend for my professional and personal life. I work as a touring burlesque performer, and while this car is tiny enough to slide into a compact parking space with ease, it has a deep and wide enough trunk to accommodate several suitcases of costuming, supplies and merchandise. Even at over 150,000 miles, it's performing well, with great gas mileage. I have dealt with some recent electrical problems and alternator issues, but they were rectified easily, and the car is just as dependable now as it was when I first bought it. This car has excellent pick up and can get up to speed on the highway in no time flat. The design is sleek and classic, practical, but with a playful style to it. Story
One of my favorite memories in this car is driving out to the country with friends to watch a meteor shower a few years ago. There's really nothing like getting away from everything to lay back in the complete darkness and spend a few hours in awe of space. It makes you feel so small, yet so wonderful.
Pros
Smooth ride, stylish, solid climate control and ventilation, great mpg, storage galore, for both cargo and ride-along items, speedy pick up.
Cons
Key fob malfunction and electrical issues.
