1997 Honda Civic - Old Reliable
I have taken this vehicle everywhere that you could think of. It has gone up through the harsh snows of Tahoe in CA with chains it preforms flawless.
I have driven it up the steepest inclines of San Francisco with out any issue. It gets great gas mileage, I have taken it thousands of miles across the United states and never had any mechanical issues along the way. The seats are comfortable enough to sit in throughout the drive across states. The air conditioner has lasted and blasted cool all the time.
Story
Driving my Civic from Northern CA all the way to Vegas, making great time a long the way blasting music. Once my friends and get there we all profit on the black jack tables over the whole trip and leave with cash in our pockets have just of fun of a time in the Civic on the way home.
Pros
One of the best parts of this vehicle is the gas mileage, it gets over 25 depending on how fast you are driving.
The seats are comfortable and the cloth on them has lasted since the cars birth.
The EX adds v-tec to the engine which allows for some quick acceleration for a 4 door car.
Spacious room, enough for four large adults to sit comfortable throughout a long road trip.
Spacious trunk with lots of room for sizable luggage or golf clubs.
Tight handling and good acceleration
Cons
The paint on the car was the first thing to start fading.
The cloth on the seat has only just now started to rip might be made with lower quality material than other pieces of the car
The cloth on the ceiling of the car has deteriorated a little bit with time, might be lower quality as well
The nob on the stereo is a little bit touchy but works most of the time after 18 years
Faded headlight glass needing to be replaced over time.
1997 Honda Civic - Great car
A great car with exceptional handling for an economy car. Easy to maintain and fix when things do break. Find yourself a good mechanic who won't rip you off and you've got it made with this car. It has great gas mileage, topping 45 miles per gallon on the highway, which is fantastic for its age. Beats many many newer cars. This was the year they made them right.
Story
What's fun is the other older Honda Civic owners who come up to me bragging about how old and how many miles they've put on their car.
Pros
If you want a car with great gas mileage and one that will get you around with ease and no worries, this is the one. You can spend 20-30k more, but you'd be wasting your money if you only want transportation that's dependable and are not interested in flash. The trunk is roomy, as I've put in just as much as a Volvo wagon would hold. A trusty workhorse of a car. I can't tell you the number of times I've had other owners come up to me bragging about how many miles they have on theirs.
Cons
I can't think of one bad thing to say about this car. It just keeps going and going. The windshield should be replaced at some point as it could become a safety issue. But it's not expensive and easily done.
