GMC Safari Owner Ratings & Reviews

1999 GMC Safari - Faithful ride.
My GMC Safari van has been an excellent choice for me. It has just over 100,000 miles on it and is still running like a charm. I bought this van used knowing that the transmission had already been replaced. At the time of the purchase the used dealership paid to have a new air conditioner compressor replaced at their expense. The air conditioner and transmission are still working fine. It has been mechanically sound. Overall I'd highly recommend this van.
Story
I picked up my neighbor's grand daughter after school one day while driving my van. She was in awe of the many gadgets that were in the back of the van, e.g. TV, DVD, lights, etc. She wanted to know, if we could take a road trip so she could use the TV.
Pros
This van is very easy for me to get in and out of. This was an important feature for me as I am disabled. It's a smooth riding van and is pleasant for long road trips. It has a lot of room for a large family to ride comfortably. The rear seat can be removed which allows for moving large items. It has no oil leaks and is average on gas mileage. The engine still runs extremely quiet.
Cons
The paint on this van has faded quite a bit but I am hoping a good waxing will help with bringing it's original color back to life. There is a problem with the power steering that is nothing major. I have had a slow leak. The power steering began to make a loud noise and will be repaired this week. The expense for this repair is not terribly expensive.
2003 GMC Safari - Great Minivan!
I live in Denver Colorado where the weather is anything but predictable. With my 2003 GMC Safari AWD, I am able to tackle the road in any condition. With the mountains so close by, roadtrips are a must. This minivan has more than ample room for me and my friends on roadtrips - not to mention all the room left over for our snowboards!
This minivan is great on the highway, great in town, and definitely great up on the mountains. Handling is pretty easy. At first I was nervous about the size, but it handles very well. It's a very agile car and can tackle the curves just fine.
It does take a bit to accelerate uphill, but once you get it going on cruise control, it's pretty easy. The AWD is a dream, especially in Colorado with all the different terrain.

Story
We have taken this minivan for an epic snowboarding trip from Colorado Summit County to Jacksonhole! It was great! A nice size for 5 adults and all of our snowboarding gear.
Pros
I love the size of this car and how well it handles the road despite its size. The AWD is a must and I appreciate the freedom it gives me.
Cons
It does use more gas, but that is typical. Sometimes it is a bit harder to accelerate uphill.
2010 GMC Safari - Direct clunker
The car is vehicle price friendly. I purchased it as a discount drive for myself when I was younger. It was a car that was meant to last through college. However, it gave out in the second year due to a faulty engine. My friend who has the same make and model car mentioned the same and was discontented with her purchase as well.
Story
I remember going to my uncle's fiftieth birthday party. He lives in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He was the only relative who ever encouraged me to follow my dreams. I bought him his favorite cake from his favorite bakery for his birthday. My aunt tasked me with this, and I was able to travel across two states with the cake in tow.
Pros
This vehicle is very good for beginning drivers. It is not too heavy to steer and has great fluidity of motion. It is one of the safest cars because it is made from old school sheet metal that cars were once made from. Therefore it is less likely to dent if hit or sabotaged. I have yet to have a significant dent in this car, though I have had many bumper taps by other cars.
Cons
The car is a bit abrasive with regards to maintenance. The engine and other under the hood issues seem to be the bane of my existence. It took me great resource and patience until it was fixed. The component needed was so old that it took the mechanic about a month to fix my whole engine. Honestly, it pays to secure a newer car instead.
