1996 Ford Ranger - The Ranger lacks in style and comfort but makes up for in value and performance.
My Ranger's seats are quite stiff, the dashboard has pieces missing and the paint job is showing more signs of rust as time goes on. As various components show their age, her engine remains resilient to the sands of time.
Story
Towing my friend's Ford E-350 at 03:00 AM. Neither of us had the proper equipment, but with a few ropes and a chain, I managed to get them to their mechanics' parking lot. My odometer stopped working somewhere around 140,000 miles, and my turn signals have not worked for close to a decade.
Pros
The Ranger's simple design attracted my attention from first look. Manual window cranks and locking mechanisms use a reduced number of moving parts to look after. Very little maintenance has been required over the years. Simple fluid changes, tires and belts, brake pads are associated with 90% of my costs over the years.
Cons
Even with the extended cab option, the XLT is a snug fit. Sleeping inside the cab is quite a painful endeavor. Also, even after having three mechanics take a look, I have not been able to get my turn signals to function for close to a decade. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
1999 Ford Ranger - The Ranger
I love this little truck. It has been very reliable for the 12 years that I've had it. I have not had any major problems with the truck and actually it has started up without fail each time I cranked it! I feel that Ford did an awesome job with this model. Love driving this truck with its low profile look. The suspension is also really good for a small truck, the ride is very comfortable and not bumpy, rattley or loud. I have a manual transmission which makes it more fun and I have even trained my kids to drive it. My son wants me to give it to him whenever I buy another car or when he graduates from high school, he loves it. My Ford Ranger is a midnight blue color with no dents or major scratches on the body. Story
I took my truck to Key West Florida for a weekend trip and it was very a very fun and nice ride.
Pros
This truck is tough and very reliable after 12+years, very solid little thing. The low profile look and turning radius is really nice!
Cons
There really are no cons other than passenger space, but that's to be expected without the rear seats.
